I rushed back to Charlotte and Ben, crouching slightly as I held my bow ready, I wasn't prepared to take any chances now that I know someones been here recently.
Demi who was only slightly ahead of us gulped as I passed her.
'Uninfected?' Charlotte asked to which I nodded.
'Been there no longer than a week.' I whispered, turning back to Demi cautiously. 'I'm going in with her. Stay here.'
I rushed forward again till I reached Demi's side, she gulped heavily as we turned to the house once more. Suddenly, something wrapped around my fingers.
I looked to my bow and surprisingly, Demi's hand rested on my trigger finger hand, sweat dribbled from her hand down onto my wrist. (The trigger hand is the one holding the elastic of my bow.)
'Are you afraid?' I whispered slowly.
'I should've gone to the toilet earlier.' She tried to chuckled but her voice wavered, I had forgotten that this journey was her first time in such a small group with such little supplies.
'It'll be ok, sometimes these things have a way of working out, and with our group to back us up and to look forward to seeing again we are unstoppable.' I said reassuringly, not taking my eyes of the house for a second.
'I know.' She gulped. 'It's just... scary. I used to watch all theze zombie films as a kid, all survivors were power hungry psychos...'
'Sounds the same as before the outbreak. Everyone's power hungry, there's nothing wrong with that really, but if you mean the bastards that have gone bat shit and say "To fight the walkers, you must think like a walker" and end up eating other humans... No, they're not so much fun.'
Demi gasped, whimpering. 'I didn't mean that!!'
'Well... You do now?' I gulped. Oops.
We walked forward slowly, cutting through the grass like blunt knives till we reached the concrete floor that surrounded the red bricked house, I spared a look upwards, the roof was large and sheltered the door almost like a porch and as soon as we were beneath it, the sun went away and a dark shadow came over our eyes.
'What do you suppose we do?' Demi gulped. 'Kick it down, or knock politely.'
'Well knocking would be nice but... I don't think anyone's in, I think any survivors would've made an appearance to us by now, whoever might have been here must've moved on by now so... Kick it.'
'What if there's walkers inside?'
'Put them out of there misery.' I shrugged, lifting my hand away for a second and reaching into my pocket, feeling for my gun, I moved it slowly into a position where I could instantly grab and shoot it as I flipped the safety off.
Though it's not really a good idea when its tucked down my butt.
Demi nodded her head before stepping back, hoisting her leg and bashing it against the door as hard as she could. The door didn't swing open immediately which was slightly surprising, any old rusty door like this one appeared to be would surely give way at least slightly with a kick like that which caused me to doubt my theory of the survivors being in there.
'Wait.' I hissed.
She didn't even move since she wasn't doing anything when I hissed at her except gaze at the door in admiration, even she was surprised it didn't give way.
A reached forward one hand and quickly and swiftly knocked four hard times on the door before grabbing the bow again and bending the elastic back slightly.
