[Paytons POV]

'Thank you for dinner, Payton. It was delicious.' Voices chorused through the group.

I continued with my fake smile and giggled at the adults and children before me. 'Your welcome everyone, I thought you all deserved it after the hospitality you've shown me and Charlotte, it's a bit late but it just came to me earlier today.'

The group laughed and smiled at me, each one with the same kind, generous face.

Where were these people before the apocalypse?

Honestly, everyone I met before the apocalypse were either massive dickheads or stuck up chicks.

I removed the apron I made from an old dress of mine (like I'd need it now) I found in my rucksack upstairs and hung it on the back garden door.

'I'm extremely tired everyone.' I giggled one last time. 'I think I'll retire to bed.'

Everyone said their goodnight and goodbyes as I stepped at the room and up to the attic and I swear every step I took was more painful than the last.

When I reached my bed I flumpted down and began to strip down to my underwear before climbing in for a quick kip before I left the group I had come to love so much.

[Charlottes POV]

Everyone in the room was smiling including that Demi girl, Payton brought back with her.

Except one.

Ben, he looked at everyone in the group with what seemed like pity before looking down at his own hands again and sighing.

I strolled over to him, hands on my hips. 'What's wrong?'

He looked up, surprised to see me then looked down again in fear. 'N-no-nothing.'

'Yes there is, Benjamin. What's wrong?' I asked sterner.

He looked up. 'I'll tell you tommorow... When it matters.'

'It matters now.' I gasped. 'Ben it's you.'

He chuckled. 'No Charlotte, it's really not me... And it really doesn't matter now. Good night.'

He stood to his feet and waved one last time and began the short walk to his designated room on the 3rd floor.

I stared after him. Confused.

What doesn't matter and if it's not him who is it?

[Paytons POV]

*** 6 hours later ***

1am rolled around slowly and I quickly stepped out of bed, careful not to wake up sleeping Luke in the corner of the room.

I reached into my rucksack and pulled out the second dress I packed but never needed and smiled.

I'm going with style.

I pulled the dress over my head and shimmed into it gracefully, then grabbed my sword from underneath the bed and held it tightly to my side before stepping out.

The wound on my stomach began to throb but I ignored it as I stepped from the attic and shut the door slowly behind me before walking down the rest of the stairs.

When I reached the bottum of the stairs and held the front door handle in my hands I stopped for a second and sighed.

'Karmas a bitch. I guess I get back what I gave.' I whispered before opening the door. 'That doesn't mean I want any one of you to suffer through it with me. Goodbye.'

I stepped out into the night, the cold stabbing me like a knife.

I walked towards the wood and stopped for a second, brushing down my dress and stared, remembering everything I was leaving behind.
