'Forever is a long time, but I... Wouln't mind spending it by your side. Tell me everyday I'd get to wake up to that smile.' I sung softly to myself, I reaches behind my back, grabbing my thick brown hair in one handful and shoving it up into a tight bun with a hair and, making sure to grab every inch of my fringe, my hair was knotty so i winced several time as I tried to wrap the band around it before reaching down and grabbing my bow from around my ankles.

'Are you ready?' Charlotte gulped.

Charlotte and I discussed our options after I suggested the two of us moved on and to say that Charlotte was excited may be an understatement, she smiled till the end of the day and even laughed a little while she was sleeping. I never realised how unhappy she was staying here, although maybe that's because I didn't care enough to notice.

We stood by the door and held the handle ready to burst out, our supplies were strapped to our backs in our big thick backpacks. We'd backed everything we could carry, food, weapons and clothing, Charlotte packed her sketchbook and her little pencil case and I packed my notebook and reading book, I also packed so my arrows were sticking out back for me to quickly grab if I needed them.

I nodded my head with a worried exhale. 'Do you have any bullets?'

'Yes but I think its best we don't use them. One because we'll attract more walkers and two, I don't have that many so I'd rather not waste them. Lord knows I never want to go near a gun store ever again.'

Gun stores were a lot moe rare in England than in America so it was not a pleasant experience trying to get to one that had been out on lockdown in the middle of City centre, it wasn't entertaining getting into the city let alone getting out but we got what we needed including some little handguns, a magnum, a shot gun, a silencer (most important) and enough bullets to kill a couple hundred walkers. Sadly most of those bullets were wasted in target practise since when it came to firing one of those puppies for the first time we learnt that we needed to create a new word for absolutely shocking.

'I'll use my crossbow.' I nodded in agreement.

'Good. I'll use my axe.' Charlotte smiled, big and toothy for me. Her excitement was borderline creeping me out but in a way I'm glad she's happy. I just wish she'd keep it to herself for a while.

I breathed deeply and tried to stop my skin from shaking out of control. Things I didn't understand about myself was my reaction to things. For example, my fear. I didn't understand why I was so afraid.

'If we don't find anyone we're seriously fucked when it comes to settling down again.' I gulped, trying to mask my fear from Charlotte who was still little miss grin.

'We'll find someone.' She laughed.

'Unless we die first.' I mumbled but Charlotte heard me and flicked my forehead,

'Please. Think positively Payton.' She tutted and shook her finger at me.

I nodded. 'Sorry. I'm positive we're going to die first.'

She tutted again but didn't give me a reply as she grabbed her own hair and tied it into a loose plait, she pulled her axe up from her feet grunting a little at its weight as she hoisted up over her shoulder.

I felt myself relax for a second as I watched her little pre-fight checks then decided to go through my own. I clicked my neck and wiped my eyes. I bent down and retied my shoe laces so they were extra tight and not at risk of coming undone before I took a deep breath in and nodded my head in Charlottes direction.

As Charlotte smiled at me I felt a thought trickle down my mind, I wonder what people up in heaven think of me and Charlotte right now. I wonder if they are proud of us, or maybe they're downright disgusted. Are we supposed to keep fighting or are we supposed to die? I want to turn to religion because I want there to be a reason for this to have happened, I don't want it to be because of "just science fucking up."
