[Book 2] Chapter 17

Some of you might already know this 'cause I've said this before but I'm going to change MVZ update days. On Wednesdays I have important meetings that don't allow me to get home until 8 o'clock... This does not leave me enough time to write or finish chapters so I'm going to change update days to Sundays and Thursdays

I'll try to stop leaving such large authors notes from now on because I know it annoys some readers (me included) ;) LOVE YOU ALL!!!

[Payton's POV]

Daryl stared at me, for a second his eyes widened but then they closed into slits and his hands tightened to fists by his sides as he stared at me hard.

'Don't act so surprised!' I snapped. 'When we fight like that and you make the choice you did, I'm not going to stay with you because I'm not a damn idiot.'

Ben took my hand kindly beside me before he pulled me over to Eugene, Daryl snarled at the sight and then marched away in anger, pulling his bow from behind his back as he walked away.

'He'll be back in a minute.' Eugene whispered. 'But this is stupid of you, Payton, going after Charlotte in danger is one thing but going after her when she is kidnapped is insane, you would never get her, the group would kill you first.'

'She's... She's my best friend, Eugene.' I whispered. 'She saved me so many times, she put up with me when I went suicidal, she tried to keep me sane as we ran around the country like it was a maze that we kept getting stuck at the dead ends. She never left me for a second to die, and she never gave up on me.'

'But Payton, the chance that you will die is over 90%.'

'No it isn't.' I whispered.

Ben looked to me in confusion as I rested my arm on his shoulder and leaned onto him.

'We didn't get separated from Demi and Charlotte...' I confessed. 'We were kidnapped by those same men that got them.'

'How did you-'

'They treated Payton like royalty. They treated us with kindness and respect because it's basically a crazy camp. They believe in God and Jesus and all that Noah's flood stuff...' Ben cut in.

'Why were they so kind?'

'Because at that place they all believe they are reincarnations of a holy person, there were messengers, prophets, and a man that believed he was the biological brother of Jesus Christ, he was the man in charge.' I explained further. 'They all follow his orders, if they don't they basically believe they're going to hell for disobeying the holy brother.'

'Yes... But why were they kind to you?' Eugene growled.

'Paul, the holy brother of something,' Ben whispered. 'Has always had a wife named Elizabetha, she's not related by blood to Jesus or Paul but is still referred to the holy sister, but she's basically Jesus' sister in law... Paul believed that Payton was the reincarnation of Elizabetha so gave her freedom in the camp and even allowed me to live... We think they somehow planted something on us or simply followed us because the two men, D and Jonathan said they were after Elizabetha, but if we can get back to their camp we can stop them from hurting them.'

'And Paul would care for Luke, it has the security, it has the people, there were over 100 people in that place, it has guns, they gave us an entire bag, food, water, everything! We can give Luke the time he needs to heal, the medical care he needs to live.' I whispered.

'... Why didn't you say this in the first place?'

'They're insane.' I coughed. 'We don't know whether they were kidding to make us drop our guard or they're actually insane... It was a risk and women are taken advantage of, I'm scared of what might happen to Charlotte and Demi if we don't reach them in time... We need to go, rescue Charlotte and Demi, I'll send them on their why with Ben then I will stay on my own with Luke till he heals.'
