SONG: Blind by prettymuch
The next morning you stretched awake under the heavy weight of Josh asleep half next to you, half on you. You knew you should wake him up so you could talk before his game, but you couldn’t bring yourself to resist curling back into his arms as he started to stir.
Jaden: “Wtf? Did you sleep in here? Wait-”
You and Josh both shot straight up, awake as Jaden stared at you in shock and Amelie just smiled.
You: “Oh, no. We are not doing this again. I was only in here because YOU took over my room for the whole night.”
Jaden: “I’m sorry. You’re right. Mom and Dad are here though. They found me in Amelie’s room and I covered that we’d just had breakfast together and you were already up and having breakfast with this one. One look at you in his tee shirt and they’re gonna know that’s bull.”
Amelie helped sneak you back into your room to get ready while Jaden distracted your parents. Even though he could be overwhelming with how aggressive his protective streak ran, you knew he had your back like no other. When you looked up from buttoning your jeans, you found Amelie smirking at you waiting for the backstory to what she’d walked in on.
You: “Really? We’re doing this? Fine.”
She sat down eagerly on the edge of her bed ready for the tea as you continued:
“Yes we slept together. I don’t know what I was thinking. It just kinda happened.”Amelie: “Bull, I know exactly how it happened. You two are in love with each other and everyone else can see it but the two of you.”
You: “We’ve talked about it, though. I mean, we talked about it last night, again. We are just friends.”
Amelie: “Friends don’t do what you guys did last night… just saying.”
You threw your pillow across the room and both giggled as she dodged it. You put the finishing touches on your makeup and noticed Amelie was being too quiet. You turned to find her clasping her phone, looking like she was about to explode from anxiety.
You: “What’s going on? Amelie, you good?”
Amelie: “I- Griffin decided to come to the game.”
You: “And Jaden is gonna freak, isn’t he?”
Amelie: “He made it clear how he felt about Griffin being around when he is but I didn’t want to tell Griffin how much of a grudge he was still holding. He already feels so awful so I just made an excuse about there being no more room in the boy’s caravans.”
You: “We all have to move on. It’s called an accident for a reason. I’ll talk to Jaden.”
Amelie: “Not till after the game, okay? I don’t want him distracted. I’ll just try to keep them apart for now.”
The game was approaching half-time and the boys were up by a lot less than they usually were at this point. They were still winning, but you could see the frustration on their faces from your seat.
Mads: *moving to sit next to you*
“Bryce is gonna be in a helluva mood after this if they don’t pull out a win.”You: “How are things going with you two?”
Mads: “He’s amazing. He’s not at all like that party animal personality when it’s just the two of us. It’s like we can be out and having so much fun but then when it’s just the two of us? He’s so sweet and loving.”
You: “Love, huh?”
Mads: “I don’t know about love yet, but it’s going good. I mean have you ever seen me last a month with a boyfriend before?”
You: *getting distracted by Griffin coming down the stairs with a girl on his arm*
“Fair enough.”Mads: “Well would you look at that, speaking of love.”
Amelie: “Her name is Eva, she’s super sweet. They met at the hospital while he was visiting me. Her grandma had surgery or something.”
You: “Good for him.”
Mads: *laughing*
“Someone is jealous.”You: “Oh, I am not.”
Mads: “Are you still upset about him rolling into the street and hitting you two? Not that I blame you. Bryce said the boys are still furious.”
You: “Not at all. It was an accident. I’m so sick of them deciding for me how I get to feel about something that happened TO ME!”
You marched over to where Griffin sat with a smile:
“Hey, Griff.”Griffin: “Hey. I wasn’t ignoring you or anything. Amelie seemed weirded out by me being here and I know your brother isn't my biggest fan, lately.”
You: “Hey, no. I’m a fan. That’s what matters. Your sister and I still love you and I’m so glad you’re here.”
You could see the girl next to him shift uncomfortably, so you turned to introduce yourself and she immediately perked up with a beautiful smile.
Griffin: “This is Eva, m- my girlfriend.”
You: “Oh my God… Griff!! That’s awesome. I mean she’s gorgeous, so go you.”
Eva couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as Mads and Amelie joined.
Mads: *lying*
“Hey guys, we didn’t see you back here.”Amelie: “Hi Eva. I haven’t seen you at the house the last few days, how have you been?”
Eva: “Yeah, my Mom wanted to get to know Griffin better so we’ve been hanging at my house more-”
Eva’s explanation was interrupted by Jaden dribbling the ball down the court after some big play you’d clearly missed. You turned and started yelling along with the crowd to hype him up as he struggled to find a clear shot.
You looked up at the clock to see it ticking down to 0 at a furious rate. Suddenly Jaden pushed the ball towards Josh, who paused to look up and find you in the crowd. His eyes met yours and with a wink the ball left his fingers spinning into the net as the buzzer sounded.
Amelie and Mads jumped into each other’s arms screaming before rushing down onto the court to find their boyfriends. Griffin bent down and whispered where only you could hear it:
“We all saw that. Go!”You hurried down the stairs trying to convince yourself that Griffin was right in assuming he would be looking for you. The moment he spotted you, he pushed past the crowd and scooped you up into his arms. He spun you around, smiling as the confetti poured down around you all.
