When they made it to the back entrance of the venue, her manager was waiting to shoo her best friend right into hair and makeup.
You: "Amelie!! Can you please make sure Josh and Blake are actually on the way?"
Amelie held up her phone to indicate that she was already on it and stepped into the hall where there was better reception. Blake immediately responded with a promise that he was close to getting Josh out the door.

She hadn't looked up from her phone when she bumped into someone. She looked up and felt her heart drop into her stomach.
Jaden: "You came..."
Amelie: "Y- Yeah. I brought your sister."
Jaden: *nervously* "Better late than never, I guess."
Amelie: "Are you excited about the show? This is bigger than your usual venues, right?"
Jaden: "Yeah. This is a much bigger production but I'm ready for sure."
Amelie: "You're going to do so amazing, J."
Jaden: "It's a dream come true. I'm really glad you're here to see it."
Amelie: "I'll always be rooting you on, no matter where your dreams take you."
She felt her body overtaken with dizziness the way he still looked at her. He reached out to brush the hair away that had fallen into her face but stopped just before he touched her: "Sorry. Old habits."
No matter how much time passed between the last time they saw each other, as soon as he came near her whole body was pulled towards him. It was as if he would always be her center of gravity no matter who they moved on with or how far they drifted apart.
Nessa: *popping her head out of a door* "Hey, baby. Wardrobe has a few looks for you to choose from and they need you now."
They said a nervous goodbye, but Amelie couldn't help but be lost in thoughts of if they'd be meant for each other in another lifetime.
*END AMELIE'S POV*
You were getting really nervous because the few times you'd been able to peek at your phone, you hadn't heard a word back from Josh. Amelie finally made it back inside and reassured you: "Almost everyone is here. They set up a group of box seats for the whole gang. Eva, Griff, Bryce and Mads, Zack and Emma, Noah, Dixie, Charli and Ben, even your family. They're all out there."
You: "Amelie, what about Blake and Josh?"
Amelie hadn't heard back since the message promising they'd be leaving soon and that had been over 30 minutes ago so she stretched the truth a little when she answered: "They are definitely on the way."
You: "Okay. Go get your seat and thank you for everything."
Amelie: *yelling as she rushed out the door*
"My best friend is a fucking ROCKSTAR!!"
*AMELIE'S POV*
She made her way to the box seats but froze in the aisle when she heard Jaden step onto the stage. The moment she heard the song she recognized it and tears welled up at the corner of her eyes as she stood paralyzed.
*FLASHBACK* (to just before Jaden went to rehab)
She was over parties at this point and school wasn't even starting for another week. She'd been spending a lot more time with Blake and even though she wasn't sure where that was leading, when he offered to drive her home, she jumped at her escape route.

Jaden hadn't even shown up but hearing his name come up over and over was torture enough. He'd been so mad when they first broke up and her secret came out that she thought he'd hate her forever but after Blake dropped her off she felt her phone vibrate. She half expected it to be Blake letting her know he'd made it home, but nothing prepared her for the message from Jaden.

She was falling for Blake but a part of her always wondered what if she wouldn't have told him it was too late.
*END FLASHBACK*
Listening to him sing it on stage behind her, broke a part of her she thought had been gone a long time.
Blake: "Hey, there's my baby."
Amelie: "Where's Josh?"
Blake: "He's already in his seat. They wouldn't let him backstage because she's about to go on."
Amelie: "Thank God. She's been so worried."
Blake: "What about you? You doing okay?"
Amelie: "Yep, just had to say goodbye to a friend."
As he led her to their seats, she told herself maybe that all-consuming, tragic love was meant for another lifetime. This life was about being happy.
