SONG: Demons by Imagine Dragons

*JADEN’S POV*

Jaden stopped at Amelie’s to check on her again on his way to practice. It’d been a few weeks since the accident and she was getting ready to get her cast off and was so excited. Amelie pulled him into her room and shut the door as she kissed him.

Jaden: “Not that I’m complaining, but what was that for?”

Amelie: “I feel like I haven’t seen you much the past few weeks. Between helping your family and basketball practice we only get facetimes lately.”

Jaden didn’t have the heart to admit that in addition to those valid reasons, he’d also been avoiding her house so he didn’t confront Griffin.

Amelie: “So I was thinking…”

She looked so cute all excited so he already knew whatever she was going to ask for, he’d agree to.

Amelie: “I wanna come to your big game.”

Jaden: “Your mom is gonna let you travel?”

Amelie: “She’s making Griffin come to keep an eye on me, but yep!”

Jaden: *deeply sighing*
“I don’t want him there, Amelie.”

Amelie: “You have to forgive him eventually. It wasn’t his fault. It was a freak accident.”

Jaden: “BS! You were injured and my sister almost d!3d. I am not going to forgive him. Ever.”

When Jaden climbed in the car, Josh gave him a questioning look. They’d gotten a lot closer with Josh coming over nearly every day to visit his sister and them riding together to practice. She and Josh were in some weird friend/used-to-be/almost-were limbo but he was letting them figure things out. After what he heard Josh confess to her unconscious body, he knew they’d figure things out.

Josh: “Sooooo… Are we gonna talk about it?”

Jaden: “What?”

Josh: “Clearly something happened in there.”

Jaden: “No, I’m not talking about it. Just drive.”

At practice the boys raced into the locker room, hoping the coach didn’t notice they were a few minutes late. If he did, he didn’t mention it. Probably because he was grateful his two star players were finally getting along.

Bryce: “Is Amelie coming with you to the game?”

Blake’s ears peaked at the mention of her name but Jaden didn’t seem to notice. Noah did though and threw a towel at him before asking:
“What about you, Josh?”

Josh: “What are you talking about?”

Noah: “Even Bryce invited his new girl to the game, so are you bringing Jaden’s sister or what?”

Coach: “Okay ladies. Enough gossip. Out on the court.”

*AMELIE’S POV*

Amelie sat alone in her room after Jaden left and wracked her brain for a way to make things just go back to how they were. The tension between him and her family was becoming unbearable. He even refused to speak to his own parents unless he had to because of the part they played in having him released. Griffin peaked in, asking:
“Jaden already leave? I was trying to catch him.”

Amelie: “I can’t let you do this.”

Griffin: “I made my choice when I pulled you out of the car before the police arrived and told them I was behind the wheel.”

She broke down in guilt for the third time today alone so Griffin reassured her:
“I'm the mess up. They'll believe I did something this dumb. Mom said with the Barker’s support I'm going to just lose my license and have no criminal charges at all.”
