CHAPTER 4

4.

"ANNIE?"

"Yes, I can't forget her name. When she was brought into this mansion, her life was totally changed. Since that she was like my own child." She lowered her head and I can tell she was holding her back from crying. I patted her hands trying to comfort her.

"What happened? Where is she?" I asked her as she shook her head in no.

"I don't know where is she. She left the mansion without any trace of her. All the things related to her were not in the room. Nobody knew where she was and how she left the mansion. I tried to look for her everywhere but didn't find anything at all. The least I could do was pray to god to make her alive and free from all those things. "

Then, she joined her both hands and prayed to god. I just looked at her and was surprised for a moment. I stayed silent and listen to her. 

"Though it's been a long time, please bless her and keep her safe. I don't want anything from you but please protect her. I hope she is out of this world. Please keep her away from those people and this cruel world. Please..." She bowed her head.

I hope your prayers don't be a waste. I thought to myself and tapped on her shoulder. Then, she took a deep sigh and tried to stay calm. I smiled at her and she nodded smiling at me.

"Btw, AMICA, how did you come here? I mean it's very hard to work here." She asked me looking directly into my eyes. I can say she was worried and confused.

I don't know what to answer to her. I can't say all the things that I have been through and most importantly, I don't want to involve her in this mess.

So, I stayed quiet for a moment and lowered down my head. She was looking at me with curiosity in her eyes and I tried to look away trying to avoid her gaze.

I can't say anything to her. I have to make up some story. I can't let her know it. I bite my lips trying to make up something.

"I came here because of my family as they had a lot of debt. So, for that, I had to work to get paid and clear all the debt. One of my relatives had worked here before. Through her, I got to work here."

I said making a fake smile and looked away. She didn't try to believe it at first but fortunately, she nodded. I took a low sigh of relief and tried to ignore her gaze.

"Oh... I thought there were some other reasons." She said looking at me. "Anyway, be careful and take care of yourself and take some rest. Tomorrow, we will have a lot of works and trouble. Don't make any mistakes." She tapped on my hands.

"You are new here and don't know a lot of things. Let me tell you, there are many things hidden in this mansion that we can't even imagine. We will have to tolerate it and some people as well. You might have to pay with your life in any case. I am not trying to scare you but it the bitter truth. So, be careful and think twice, thrice before speaking or doing something, okay?"

"Okay, I will but what can be the reason behind it?"

"You will face it in the coming days. Especially tomorrow, DAIN and LIN, son and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. MACDUFF are coming back and both are twins. When they were in primary school, they were sent to study in New York. They both are total spoilt brats and troublesome to deal with. You have to be careful with them." She said and was kind of pissed off. I just nodded to her.

"They can do whatever they want. Nobody can point or lay fingers at them. So, stay away from them and try to avoid them as much as you can. Don't involve yourself in their things."
