Scent of Hellfire
Sean Wallace had been busy.
He had caught one of the men who last saw his father, tied him upside down on top of a building then proceeded to burn him alive. All of them without a second thought.
He needed to find his father's killer. Even if he had to burn every single person in that building to find answers.
Still, he was no closer to finding his father's killer. He may have felt a sick sort of satisfaction that only people in their field could feel when he lit the rope on fire. But when that man, that boy had long since burned and fell, he only felt numb.
Perhaps that was the right thing to feel, especially since his father was going to be buried that day. He could not afford to look weak. He could not afford to show any gaps in his armor lest their enemies find it and kill him.
There was a time when no one would dare touch them. It seems that someone had found the guts to do it and in doing so, made the Wallace family look weaker than they proved themselves to be many years ago.
Sean was well prepared not to show a single ounce of emotion, had built his walls up so high no one could ever cause it to crumble down upon himself. Or so he thought.
His walls came crumbling down in a single moment when he saw her. It may not have been obvious outside of his facade but he felt everything around them so strongly when he saw her.
All of a sudden, he could hear his heart beginning to pound furiously in his chest, he could feel the cold temperature nipping at his cheeks, and he could hear the quiet murmuring from the people outside the house.
Suddenly, he couldn't seem to remember the events of the past night. It promptly became irrelevant to him when he glimpsed the familiar blonde hair and green eyes belonging to the girl that had occupied his dreams every single night since she left.
"Hello, Sean." She greeted him.
As if he had no control over his body, he began to walk towards her until he was right in front of her. Their eyes meeting finally, blue clashing with green in a flurry of colors.
Her first words to him after so many years, ringing over and over in his ears. Her voice had changed, he had noticed. Along with a lot of things.
"Lia."
⸻
"When did you get back?" Sean asked her, still looking at her intently with those eyes.
Emilia could see the effects of his father's death on him even more from up close. His skin was pale, his eyes rimmed with red, and the fatigue weighing out on him.
