Sean held on to Emilia tightly, their hands intertwined as she played with the watch on his wrist.

He swore he could feel his heart softening up and his lips quirking into a smile whenever he saw her like that. So free and so happy.

He could almost forget the fight that he had with his mother. How she was the one who craved power, not him. He knew who he is now. He was whoever Lia needed and whoever she saw him as.

He didn't want all of the murder, all of the carnage. He only wanted the girl in his arms, the girl who was leaning on his chest, relishing the way his arms felt around her.

And he would do anything to protect her from all those who would seek to harm them. Anything at all.

If they were both being honest, they were exhausted from the long day they had. At that moment, all they wanted was to curl up in bed and take a long nap. However, it seemed as if their day was far from over.

They were still outside when they heard an odd sound come from inside the house. Instead of the Platters singing or even plain silence, there was a sound of disruption.

"What is that?" Emilia sat up, looking at him worriedly.

"I don't know," Sean shook his head, helping her stand as they both walked carefully inside the house.

He withdrew the gun from his holster, a hand pushing her behind him though he couldn't stop her as she walked deeper into the house.

A gasp left her lips at the sight she found. "Billy."

It was the waitress, now free from her bonds. She had a glass shard in her hand, pressed to Billy's neck. If she were to cut him there, he would bleed out onto the floor.

Sean followed behind her, pointing the gun at the bloodied woman.

"Emilia," Billy called out helplessly, only for the waitress to press the shard deeper into his neck, making him choke in fear.

"Give me the gun." The waitress, sensing their distress over the boy in her arms, used their fear to her advantage. "Put it on the counter, slide it."

Sean did as she asked hesitantly, sliding over the gun with the hilt pointing to the waitress. The woman adjusted Billy in her grip before grabbing the gun to point it at Sean, making Emilia grab his hand. Should she shoot, Emilia would be ready to step in front of him if the need for it arose.

"They were told to hit us," Billy said, though his voice sounded strained. "When Ed and Alex weren't there."

"What do you mean?" Sean asked, continuing to look at the bloodied woman. "What does he mean?"
