Point of No Return
Emilia smiled along with the others, spooning a piece of tiramisu into her mouth.
Billy had decided to retire to his room early that night and after checking on him three times, he finally had enough of her, sending her back to the dining room. There she was, with Marian, Shannon, Jacqui, and Danny.
Dessert had been brought out a few moments ago, and like the other dishes, it was flawless. The only problem was, she was steadily getting drunk and there was still no sign of Sean, Ed, and Alex.
She was getting worried, to say the least, even if it wasn't obvious. The four women had stayed on one side of the table, enjoying the semi-sweet cake.
"Are you and Uncle Sean getting married?" Danny asked, tapping her on the shoulder.
Everyone's eyes turned to her, all of them smiling knowingly.
"I-I, no," Emilia stuttered, her cheeks burning up as she chewed on the cake slowly. "Where are you getting these questions, Danny?"
"You're already boyfriend-girlfriend, and Mum says that the next step is getting married," Danny explained.
"He's right, you know." Jacqui continued. "When are you and Sean going to tie the knot?"
"We've only begun dating." Emilia defended, looking at them with wide eyes. "This is the best way to scare a girlfriend away, you know."
"Come on, Lia. If you were scared of us easily, you would've left ages ago." Shannon said. "The fact that you came back, and you're dating Sean goes to show that things happen for a reason."
Marian nodded, agreeing with the other two women. "You're back now. Why waste any time at all? We all know the importance of the time we have, how limited they are, with the people that we love."
Marian was right, of course. The Wallaces had been invincible and it had all changed in a second, with Finn getting killed. Emilia thought she had forever with her family, only for them to be taken away when she had been so young.
Time was of the essence. Especially for people like them. Things change so quickly, matters getting spun out of control. One person's on top, then another, then on and on it goes. An endless cycle of bloodshed, of hope, of death.
"I suppose." Emilia placed her hand over the older woman's. "Besides, me and Sean don't have to be married to show that we care about each other. When the time comes, I'm sure we will. Not now though, there's still much to do, what with the Wallace Organization and Orsini Ambrosial."
"I swear, some days, you and Sean are as different as can be, and some days, you think exactly the same way," Jacqui said, shaking her head good-naturedly.
