Remorse and Forgiveness
"Alex, wait!"
Sean called after the other man, wanting to explain why he did what he had to. He couldn't have Alex think that of him. Not his best friend. Not the man he considered his brother.
Alex turned around, his fierce brown eyes glazed over with indignation and anger. "And I thought Emilia had killed her. Does she know about this? About what you're doing?"
"We need to find out who we're fighting. What have you got to tell me that was so important?" Sean asked, ignoring his questions about Emilia.
Alex hesitated, now that he saw what his best friend was capable of. "Nothing. Nothing, I just wanted to make sure that you were okay."
"I didn't want you to see that," Sean assured him though it did nothing to comfort the other man.
"You shut up." Alex hissed, walking away.
"Alex," Sean said, trying to stop him from leaving. He couldn't bear to lose any more people. "Alex!"
Before he could leave, Alex answered. "Oh, and tell Emilia that if she doesn't want to stay here, she's free to stay with me. She shouldn't have to be in a house where someone is screaming bloody murder every day. You and I both know she deserves better than that."
With a slam of a door he left, his last words resonating with Sean deeply. Sean hurriedly locked the door again, twisting the key to lock the door. He leaned his head against the white wood, not knowing if he still had anyone left.
From the looks of it, his best friend seemed to want nothing to do with him and his girlfriend was outside hurting. Both of them in pain because of his actions, because of his own decisions. He was hurting them both.
He knew he couldn't go back downstairs. What he could do, however, was he could blame the one person whose fault it was that he lost both of them.
Sean walked into the living room, his anger threatening to spill over the carefully crafted dam he had created over the past few days.
"You gave us away." Sean accused, pointing at his brother reproachfully and throwing the bag of heroin at him. "For that!"
"It was Alex. Alex is family." Billy defended, holding up the syringe. "And Emilia and I can't listen to this shit any longer. I need this! And she needed someone!"
"That woman knew the rules when she came after this family!" Sean said about the waitress harshly, still trying to justify his actions.
Billy said, making more sense despite the heroin tempting him aggressively, the powder calling out to him like a siren song. "And what rules have you got down there? Mum knows that woman isn't going to talk!"
