Wretched Escapades
Emilia pushed back her glasses as they slid down her nose.
She was tapping away on her laptop, checking up on the updated charts of her business. Her legs were tucked underneath her as she was seated on the cushions of the sofa, a pillow between her and the laptop.
She had woken up early to get some work done, changing into her work attire. She found it easy to get into that state of mind once she was dressed for it. One shouldn't underestimate the power of apparel.
Billy and Marian were calmly having breakfast together at the dining table, having been served a wide array of foods and juices at the table. From what she heard, the staff was surprised to see some dishes in the kitchen, not knowing that any of the Wallaces could cook.
"Won't you eat with us, Emilia?" Billy called out, peeking his head over the table to look at the busy girl.
Emilia lifted her head from her work. "In a minute, I just need to finish some correspondents."
"Ever the busy bee," Sean said, entering the room. He went over to Marian, pressing a kiss to his mum's cheek. "Good morning."
Emilia felt a smile grow on her face once she saw him, the memories of last night making her heart beat furiously. "Morning."
Sean sat down on the table beside his mum and Emilia soon followed, sitting beside Billy. Emilia plucked a pain au chocolat from one of the plates, savoring the sweet flavor on her tongue.
"So what are the three of you up to today?" Marian asked, much as she did when they had been children, ever the mother figure to all of them.
Billy shrugged in response, curiously looking on as Sean poured a cup of coffee. "Last I checked, you didn't like coffee. What changed?"
Sean proceeded to ladle a spoonful of sugar into the cup before placing it in front of Emilia. "It's not for me."
"Oh." Billy's eyes widened, looking at Emilia in shock. "Oh!"
Emilia turned red, deciding to steer the conversation away. "I'll be doing some work and corresponding with some people today. What about you, Marian?"
The older woman gave them both a knowing look but thankfully went along with it. "I was planning on having lunch outside, in this small cafe. They serve excellent tea. The last time I ate there, I was with Finn."
"That's nice, Mum." Sean placed a hand atop his mum's. "Alright, I'm going to inform the three of you now because I wanted us to do something tonight."
"What do you mean, Sean?" Emilia asked, blowing on her too-hot coffee.
Sean answered, biting off a piece of his toast. "I wanted us to have dinner together. Us and the Dumanis. We've been divided as of late and I wanted us to be reminded of who we are and what we have achieved together."
