Never Again
'My office is coming for you.'
"Charming fellow, isn't he?" Sean asked, staring up at the television showing Nasir Afredi. Asif's son had been giving a speech, trying to threaten him, which was a bold move. No matter, it changes nothing.
Emilia smirked, trying to rile him up. "Quite. Gave me his number too if I recall correctly."
The two were currently in the hospital, not for the reasons one usually is but for the sake of inviting Jacqueline to Sean's dinner. The smell of alcohol permeated the air, reminding Emilia of the times when she had to patch Sean up whenever he got into a fight.
He gave her an unimpressed stare. "Delete that number immediately."
"I'm just teasing, Sean." She laughed. "He gave me a calling card and I think I left it at the bottom of the bin in my room."
He pulled her to his side, wrapping an arm around her shoulders as they walked. "As Lale said, you're my girl."
"Are you asking me to be your girlfriend?" She winked, pushing him away. "Because if you are, I might have to decline. You haven't asked me properly."
He stumbled upon his words, stuttering a bit as he flushed. "I-I, no, not yet of course. I was planni-"
"Jacqui!" Emilia interrupted, spotting the brunette girl.
Sean adjusted his tie, breathing in a sigh of relief. "Alright, sis?"
"Hi!" Jacqui greeted them, raising a hand to stop them from getting any closer. "Wait, norovirus in the ward."
"I don't get sick, you know it's my superpower," Sean replied, opening up his arms to embrace his sister anyway.
Emilia waved from afar as the two siblings pulled away. "Well, I do get sick easily, so I'm just going to have to maintain the distance. You coming tonight?"
"Did you get the message about tonight?" Sean chimed in.
"Yeah," Jacqui answered, chuckling nervously as she picked up her medical chart. "I assumed it was a joke."
"Sunday roast at Mum's house," Sean said, trying to convince his sister to come.
Jacqui raised a brow, not convinced. "It's Wednesday."
"Wednesday roast then," Sean said, hooking Emilia's arm through his as they followed Jacqui. "Who gives a shit? Family dinner. The Wallaces and the Dumanis."
"And Orsini." Emilia coughed.
"Future Wallace." Jacqui snickered softly.
Emilia began to cough in earnest this time, choking on air. Sean looked concerned for the girl, watching as she composed herself. Trying to avoid Sean's gaze, she looked straight at his sister. "Funny. Are you going to the dinner?"
