Pawns into Place
"I've seen you before, haven't I?" Emilia asked, looking up at Elliot curiously.
"No, I don't think so." Elliot shook his head.
She squinted at him, before snapping her fingers as the memory came back to her. "Yes, I have! You're the man who picked up the flowers when we were going to the church."
He let out a soft laugh as if he were relieved. "Ah yes, that was me. The one who picked up the flowers."
Their gaze then went to Sean and Alex, who were discussing something in front of the house. They looked deep in discussion, which was quite possibly about what had happened to Jack and their next step.
"Can I ask you a question?" Elliot asked.
"You just did." Emilia pointed out before grinning. "I'm joking. Go for it."
"I've been working for the Wallaces for some time and if I'm being honest, I didn't know about you before. Why is that?" He questioned, not wanting to seem too desperate for answers.
"Not one to stray from the hard questions?" She teased, before going on to explain. "Finn Wallace took me in after my family died. Basically raised me, but when I turned seventeen, I decided to go back to where my family came from. Did a little soul-searching, didn't come back till the funeral."
He inclined his head thoughtfully. "So you and Sean are together, right?"
She let out a twinkling laugh, her heart skipping a beat even when she didn't want it to. "No, we aren't. Why?"
"Oh?" Elliot raised a brow, surprised. "I had-I thought that you two were together is all. You have this weird staring and the closeness. Plus, he also looks at you whenever you're distracted."
"It's not like that. He just feels obligated to care since we grew up together." Emilia kept the smile on her face despite something in her chest twinging. "We were close, I guess. We were the closest in age, you see. I used to tag along wherever he went. The way kids do."
"Yeah, sure." He agreed though he looked unconvinced by her reply. "So what happened?"
She took a deep breath. "Life, I guess. Sometimes, we have to make difficult decisions for the people we care about, even if it'll hurt in the long run. I can see you know what I mean."
"I know what you mean." He answered, recalling memories of his own.
She cleared her throat, before looking to the house, not intending to spill all her inner thoughts to the man. "I better head inside. Stay posted though, Sean looks like he wants to accomplish a lot today."
