Eye for an Eye
"Alex isn't here."
Emilia crossed her arms, looking around at the empty office. It was odd, to say the least. Shouldn't he be focused on getting back the half a billion that was stolen from the company?
Sean uttered out a curse underneath his breath. "The moment when we all have to stay together is the moment he decides to go on an impromptu trip? That's not like him, is it?"
"Of course, it isn't. Which can only mean one thing." She answered looking through the folders on top of the desk.
He turned to look at her from his place by the window. "Oh yeah? What's that?"
"He's hiding something, Sean. He seems to be kept in check by something, by someone maybe." She suggested, opening drawers.
"You think someone got to Alex? That's impossible." He said in disbelief, helping her sort through the drawers.
There was nothing but papers and receipts of course. No one would be stupid enough to hide important documents in drawers that anyone could open.
"I'm not saying he did," She said, though it was more of an attempt to ease him. "But I'm saying that he's bothered. Did you see how he acted last night when we came here? That wasn't like him at all."
Sean chuckled despite the weight in his chest, looking over at her. "That was probably your doing?"
"My doing? How is it my doing?" Emilia raised a brow in confusion.
His smile disappeared, shutting the drawers and wrapping his arms around her waist as if in speaking about the memory, he needed to be closer to her. "He loves you, you know."
She sighed, leaning her head on his shoulder. "And how do you know that?"
"He told me when he was drunk. At the time, I thought he was joking but I can see it. Whenever he looks at you. When we met him at the club. When he called you yesterday and when we came here." He listed down, his arms tightening around her.
Alex might be his best friend, might be like a brother to him but that did not give him the right to take from him what is his. Emilia was Sean's, no one else's.
She lifted her head from his shoulder, placing a finger under his chin to make him look at her. "He will just have to accept that I love only one person in this entire world and he can't do anything about it. I love you, and no one else."
Everything in him wanted him to pull her closer and to press his lips against hers and so he did, capturing her lips in a sweet kiss. She wrapped her arms around his neck, hands tangling themselves in his dark blonde locks.
A satisfied sigh left his lips at the taste of her, tasting of bittersweet coffee, like the mugs of warm beverage with a single spoonful of sugar that he prepared for her every day. She cupped the back of his neck as if she couldn't get enough of him.
