Powerful Men and their Whiskey

Emilia thought over the events of that night

Emilia thought over the events of that night.

Looking over to the window, she could see that it was still dark. It was that moment when everyone should be asleep, when the city should be asleep.

But the city of London barely sleeps. Even when it is dark, there are some machinations at play. That night, it was the massacre of a site. Tomorrow, it would be all over the news, spreading across the city like wildfire.

Even though she wanted to be angry with him, that feeling had subsided by the third glass of whiskey she had taken in her body.

Emilia understood that Sean was only doing what he thought was right, that he was avenging the man who raised them. He would never enjoy killing for the sake of killing. He was Sean, after all.

He couldn't shoot a man for no reason, he had to have had a motive strong enough to push him to take someone's life. It was why he had failed his father's test all those years ago.

They had thought that they were going to be hunting rabbits. Jacqueline had been out with friends, leaving Finn, Marian, Sean, Billy, and Emilia.

Finn had decided to take them to a forest and she could recall being so excited. She had been eager to collect all sorts of trinkets. They had exited the car together, Emilia clinging to Sean's hand as they walked deeper into the forest.

He helped her across logs, as she looked around the tall trees, pointing them out to both brothers. Emilia also collected little rocks, placing them into Sean's pocket for safekeeping. He didn't seem to mind at all.

The lightheartedness of the trip ended when Finn handed a gun to Sean and told Emilia to stay with Marian. She had watched as Finn commanded Sean to kill the man buried up to his neck.

She couldn't bear to watch beyond that, closing her eyes and covering her ears. She had flinched when she heard a gunshot, knowing what it meant.

Later that day, Sean had handed her the pebbles she collected and a pinecone, trying to cheer her up. In the end, she had forgiven him. She had always forgiven him.

It was that thought in her head that convinced her that Sean wouldn't kill someone for no reason. If he had thought that the site was full of conspirators of Finn's murder and if he thought that it was right, she wouldn't stop him. She wouldn't see him as a villain either.

She expected him to do the same for her. To respect her decisions.

That was how she ended up on the couch, dressed in nightwear and drinking whiskey.

She was slightly tipsy by the time Sean had returned home. The sound of cars gathering outside rang in her ears. She sat up from her slouched position, waiting for him to walk in.
