I woke up to the sound of the TV coming from the lounge area. I didn't remember us leaving it on last night. I looked to my left to see Chloe still asleep. I saw the time was 8:38am. I got out of bed, wearing just my sweatpants. I went out into the main area to see no one in the lounge. I then heard quiet humming which I followed into the kitchen where I saw Maddie stood making coffee.
"What you doing?" She jumped slightly and turned around to face me, her hand on her heart. I noticed two silver rings on her hand.
"Morning" She said, handing me a mug. "White coffee, one sugar"
"You know me well"
"Could say the same for you, Hemmings" We both took a sip of the hot drinks.
"Do you want to do something today?" I asked, hopeful.
"Sure. What have you got in mind?"
"Breakfast somewhere and then maybe a walk?"
"Just like we used to do" She smiled. "I need to go to my hotel first though, to change"
"That's fine. I'll got get ready. It'll be better if we leave before Chloe's awake"
"Will she be alright with us hanging out?"
"She'll have to live with it" I said walking out the room whilst Maddie laughed slightly.
*************
"I can't believe you did that" I said, whilst laughing at Maddie. We were currently in Denny's, Maddie's favourite breakfast diner.
"Hey, we both know I've done worse"
"Like what?"
"Well, I don't know, maybe being put into holding for calling that cop a fucking asshole who needs to get a life"
"We both know there was also a lot more to that story. And you said way more than that"
"Shut up" She said, holding back a laugh.
************
"I've missed you, Luke" She said, as we walked through the park.
"I've missed you too"
"The first two months hit me hard"
"Same here"
"So, how'd you meet Chloe?"
"It was at a party we went to as part of the tour, she was there and I guess we just hit it off"
"She seems a bit of a bitch"
"Trust me, she isn't normally like that. I think she's just worried that you'll interfer"
"Good to know?" We both laughed slightly. We took a seat on one of the benches, watching others walk past.
"I noticed" I paused, to see her looking confused. "I noticed the rings and the necklace. You don't have to wear them for my benefit"
"I don't. I never stopped wearing them. They remind me of when I was happy, when I felt loved" I smiled.
"We should head back soon. Do you want to stay the night again?"
"Sure, why not"
"The guys said something about swimming?" I questioned myself.
"I need a swimsuit then, we better go back to my hotel again. I'll grab some clothes for the morning as well"
*************
"Oh my god, I remember that so well" We laughed, walking into the room.
"And that other time when we went to Walmart at midnight and-" Maddie stopped, not being able to say anything from her laughter. She leaned on my shoulder whilst I held my stomach and balanced her.
"Where have you been?" We were cut off by Chloe. I looked to see Ash and Cal sat on the sofas and Chloe stood in front of me. Ashton and Calum were giving me signals to say how annoyed she was in the background.
"We just got some breakfast and went for a walk, that's all" I said, calmly. Maybe a little too calmly.
"Just? Just? Here I am, your girlfriend, sat at home wondering where the hell you are whilst you wander around aimlessly with your ex girlfriend. Ex, Luke. As in done, over, no feelings attached"
"Chloe, you've got to trust me"
"What, even when there's pictures like this all over Twitter?" She showed me her phone to see a picture of us walking with our arms around each other. There was a selfie with me kissing her cheek that Maddie posted and there were ones of us walking and smiling.
"Those mean nothing. We're friends"
"I don't want you to be friends"
"You don't get to decide that. I want to be friends with her and that's what I'm going to do whether you like it or not" I told her and she sighed before going into our bedroom.
"So, who's up for a late night swim?" Ashton asked and we all agreed.
***********
It got to 9:30pm and we decided to go swim. When I say we, I mean Maddie, Ashton, Calum and I. Michael was playing some game and Chloe was in a strop. After a while, I got out and led on one of the beds. It was only us here as they'd opened it especially for us.
"I'm sorry about Chloe, I know it's all my fault" Maddie said, coming over and sitting on the bed next to me.
"It's not your fault. It was my idea to go out"
"I know, but-"
"Don't worry about it. I'm not that bothered anyway"
"Then why are you all sad?" She pouted, making me smile slightly. She smiled in success.
"Because I want to be friends with you again but I know Chloe won't let me. She'll do anything to stop it"
"Luke, I can't tell you what's more important. You need to decide if you want to be friends with me or have a relationship with Chloe but I'm not here to split you up or make you pick one of us. You just need to do what you think's best"
"But I don't know what I want anymore. Chloe's such a bitch since you came back and it makes me feel as if I barely know her. But we have so much history and, fuck, I don't know"
"I'll let you decide" She said, pecking my cheek and going to join Ash and Cal in the pool.
