Somewhere Along the Way... (Loki x Reader)

Nightmares and Revelations...

The next week was a bit of a blur, everyone was walking around on eggshells as Tony and Bruce had almost finished duplicating the chips that would help us take down the helicarriers. Our plan of action had been set into place. Now all we had to do was wait. The sooner we could move the better and Maria had been keeping a close eye on the progress of the helicarriers unsuspected. We had eyes and ears everywhere in SHIELD to keep us informed for now.

Loki had continued training with me, improving my magic. I was stronger than I ever had been and part of me couldn't wait for the mission to finally be able to use it and put my potential to use.

We had retreated to bed early tonight, I had persuaded Loki to watch a movie in bed with me. Of course after lots of complaining he gave in. After all books were superior to movies in his opinion. Secretly I knew he enjoyed the film as much as I had, as he lay nestled into me while I played with his hair until he had fallen asleep.

I had switched the TV off when the movie ended and I made myself comfortable managing to get snuggled into him. As I lay there listening to his soft snores, his chest rhythmically rising and falling, I drifted to sleep.

At some point through the night a searing burning sensation crept over my head. I winced my face due to the pain, trying to pry my eyes open, but I couldn't. Darkness washed over me....and before I knew it I was pulled back into the dark dreary forest.

The rain was falling relentlessly, the skies heavy with thick clouds. I stumbled forwards struggling to see in the dark with no light to guide me this time. The only light in front of me being the gleaming of Yggdrasil. It was calling to me again.

My heart hammered in my chest as terror edged through my body, I thought the nightmares where over. That I was done visiting this place.

Unsteadily I made my way up to the tree, rain trickling over the bark, leaving it damp. I slid my hands onto its trunk as it called to me then flashes started to appear before me.

Destruction.

Buildings collapsing around me.

Shouting and screaming.

I could see Tony caught below a building but I couldn't make my body move to help him. He shouted at me desperately. Begging for me to help. His face full of terror as the large piece of rubble was crushing him and there was nothing he could do to stop it. But still I couldn't move.

At this point Loki had woken to my thrashing body, trying desperately to pull me from the nightmare I was having.

Suddenly there was more flashing and the scene changed.

"No....no. No don't hurt him!" I called out.

Odin was standing in front of me now, an evil smile possessed his face as he had his sword pointed at Loki's chest. Guards had surrounded us, two of them had me restrained.

'Call this payback for what you have done to me. Stripping me of my magic, almost losing my title as King. That's what you wanted wasn't it? So you could steal the crown from under me. Hiding out on Midgard waiting to attack. You have never been my child Loki. A stolen relic, a monster, that I have no use for now. You have betrayed me too many times. Caused shame upon Asgard involving yourself with this half cast. You disappoint me greatly Loki. Let's see if she can save you now.'

"LOKI NO!" I was screaming now.

Thor and Bucky came bursting into Loki's room. They had heard me shouting as their floor was directly below ours, to find him frantically trying to wake me. My body was tense and tears streamed down my face as I screamed.

"Please! No! Don't hurt him! Take me instead! TAKE ME YOU BASTARD! TAKE ME!"

Before my eyes Odin's sword impaled Loki straight through the heart. My whole body wretched in pain as I watched him fall to the ground.
