Steven's POV:
I gave it my all, I was tired, tired of all the fighting. My body felt beaten down to nothing. I couldn't tell if I was alive, or I died right with Red. My question is answered when I feel a pair of familiar lips press against mine. That's when my eyes open and I feel my surroundings meld into place. Everyone is standing over me, worried and concerned looks at their faces."Are you okay, Steven?" Pearl asks, touching my shoulder gently as even that causes me to wince. Red must've fractured my shoulder.
She notices that I tense up and pulls away. Garnet and Lapis take a hold of me and pull me up. Beach City was slightly damaged, but thankfully most of it went towards the temple. "Where's Red?" I ask.
"He's over there, " Garnet points behind me as I turn.
There he was, the same way he looked before I lost consciousness. "Brother..." I say quietly and walk up to his corpse. "Why did it have to be this way?
Lapis walks up next to me, taking my hand in hers. "There was nothing more you could do for him, Steven. At least he's in peace now."
I stand there, gazing down at him. He did look peaceful there. There's a glint off in the distance. I let go of Lapis's hand and walk over. Leaning down I notice it's Red's gem shards. My hand leans down and grabs them, taking them to their rightful owner.
Taking Red's hand I put his gem shards in his hand and close it. Not caring about the pain I lean down, snaking my arms under him, even with his size I don't care. "Urgh..." I try to lift him off the ground.
I feel hands grasp around him. "Let us take him, Steven, " Blue suggests.
I smile and nod. "Thanks, Blue."
Eventually, I found a place and began digging. Others helped me. Blue set him down into the giant hole in the sand we dug. "Goodbye, brother..." I say before nodding to Blue to cover the hole.
Turning around I'm met with cheers from everyone.
"That was incredible, Steven!" Sadie grins, "you are the hero of this town."
"Damn straight he is!" Lars slugs my uninjured shoulder.
I chuckled, rubbing the back of my neck before I heard sobbing. Off to my right, there was Connie and her mom crying over Mr. Mhashwarren's corpse. Slowly I trail over. "Connie. I can bring him back to life with my tears if you'd like..." I offer already tearing up from the scene.
"As much as we'd love that, it's better this way..." She says wiping her tears. "He would've wanted it that way. Going down, defending his family to the bitter end, " Connie smiles sadly, "but thank you, Steven."
I nod in understanding and walk away, letting them have their moment. Lapis wraps her arms around me, holding me close. It was time for me to mourn. Clutching onto her I start sobbing uncontrollably, letting out of my emotions, again.
~A year Later~
Lapis's POV:
A year has long since passed after that whole event. Steven was heartbroken. Who could blame him? A brother he never got to know now gone. But in that time he began to come to terms with it. He visited Red's grave every day, just talking to it, having a conversation like he would if Red was alive. Steven had finally reconnected with his therapist. She recommended he get out of town and try to live a normal life. But he wasn't ready to leave and I wasn't going to push him on the matter. He asked me if I wanted to go out on a date since it had been a while, I gladly accepted the offer.
Now we sit here on the temple hill, watching the waves crash upon the shore with the sunset slowly descending. Steven looked nervous for some reason. Drops of sweat were just pouring down him. "Steven? Are you okay?" I ask with a frown.
Steven stood up from the blanket we sat down on the grass and gazed deep into my eyes. "Lapis, I know we've been together for a whole year. I know there have been rough moments, but out of all of that, I've loved you more and more each and every day. So it's time I ask this question, " he says as he gets down on one knee.
I widen my eyes and cover my mouth, tearing up.
"Lapis Lazuli, will you marry me and be my wife?" Steven asks.
"YES!" I throw myself at him, giving him the deepest and most passionate kiss.
We pull away after a minute. Steven slips a beautiful blue diamond engagement ring on my finger as I gaze at its beauty.
"Did she say yes?" A voice asks as I twist around. There's Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet, Connie, Peridot and Bismuth we're there doing their worst at hiding.
Steven chuckles, "yep, we got a yes!"
Everyone cheers, surrounding us in a hug.
"Oh I have so many wedding plans for you two!" Pearl grins excitedly
A month passes and it's wedding day. Peridot was my maiden of honor so she helped with my dress. I let Jasper help me as well. We had become good friends over that year.
"You nervous?" Peridot asks.
I nod and smile. "Who wouldn't be?"
Peridot giggles and nods. "Well, it's time are you ready?"
I stand up, nodding. She takes my arm and guides me out. There was my soon-to-be husband, standing there in a black suit with a pink tie. I smile at him and he smiles back. Before I knew it it I was standing across from him holding his hands.
Greg smiled at both of us before gazing over at Steven. "Steven, do you take Lapis Lazuli to be your lawfully wedded wife? To have and to hold from this moment forward?"
Steven grins, "I do."
He nods before turning to me. "Lapis, do you take Steven to be your lawfully wedded husband? To have and to hold from this moment forward?"
I smile lovingly towards Steven. "Of course I do."
Greg smiles, "then you two may now give your rings to each other."
I slip a Pink diamond ring with a rose pattern on Steven's finger as he slips a Blue diamond ring with an ocean wave pattern engraved on it.
"I now pronounce you husband and wife, you may kiss!" Greg cheers as me and Steven pull each other close, kissing deeply and passionately.
Steven touches my cheek, still not breaking the kiss. Soon enough we do as he swoops me off my feet, carrying me down the aisle to a black car with the crystal gem logo on the front, but with diamond authority colors. He slips me into the passenger seat and hops into the driver's side.
We wave to everyone. I widen my eyes and hope out with my wings. "CATCH!" I chuck the bouquet into the air. Pearl leaps into the air and catches it, landing next to Greg. They smile and kiss each other. I jump back in.
"Have fun guys!" Connie grins, waving.
"You come to visit!" Spinel screams.
Steven chuckles and starts the car, taking off.
"So where are we going?" I ask.
Steven smiles, "remember that promise I made you? It's time to explore the world and show you everything I can."
I grin and kiss his cheek then look out the window. I used to be so lost without you, but now that I found you. I'm never letting go ever again. It's time to spend the rest of our lives together. I lean my head on his shoulder, watching Beach City slowly disappear into the distance.
And that's the end guys. It's been quite the journey of finishing this story, but we finally made it. I sincerely hope you guys enjoyed this story and look forward to what I have in the future. Thank you guys so much for the continuous love and support, it's helped more than any of you realize. Anyway, I hope you guys have an awesome night and I'll see you guys in the next story, laters. :)
