Steven's POV:
I've probably been on the road for sometime. My eyes are becoming pretty drowsy and the car needs a fill up. Who knew finding yourself would be so exhausting? Finally I see a gas station so I pull off to the right, turning into the little parking lot."Where even am I?" I glance down at my phone to check my GPS. "Pennsylvania huh? Never heard of this state. Should be filled with nice people," I grin shoving my phone into my jacket pocket as I step out.
All I see is woods as far as the eye can see. Though it doesn't strange me out for the fact there's a giant heap of woods behind Beach City. Walking up to the pump I pull out my debit card. Dad said this would be easier for me instead of constantly pulling out cash, and plus he said some people wouldn't appreciate me pulling out a wad of cash for the fact that some people don't have that privilege. I insert my card, type in my pin and grab the pump.
I don't have any idea what time it is, but it looks pretty late since it's pitch black. Another car pulls up next to me except he pulls up to the store. My hand gives him a friendly wave but he just gives me a look and walks inside. "Okay.. Maybe not everyone is nice."
After filling up my car I go to walk inside but stop when I hear a woman scream. I make a mad dash into the store to find the same man who I just saw, holding the cashier at gun point.
"I'm not gonna say it again Lady, put the cash in the bag!" The man barks, pointing his pistol straight at the woman's head.
She shakily opens the cash register with fear in her eyes. "Please don't hurt me..."
"HURRY THE FUCK UP!" He yells.
His gaze turns to the door, noticing I've been standing there. "Better leave kid if you know what's good for you."
"Why are you doing this?" I ask.
He just laughs and turns the gun on me, "Why else? To get some quick cash. It's what a robber does kid."
"I can't let you do this to this poor innocent woman!" My eyes narrow towards him.
"Your joking right?" He laughs even louder. "You? A little twerp is gonna stop me? Don't make me laugh. Now you best get out of here before someone does get hurt."
I have no choice, "My name is Steven Quartz Diamond Universe," my shield forms on my hand. In a quick motion I toss it knocking his gun out of his hand.
"What the hell are you?!" He's now in panic as I draw closer.
"You already know," I throw my fist and crash it right into his face knocking him out.
The woman rushes around the counter to hug me tightly. "Thank you for saving me! This guy had robbed this store so many times."
"No problem mam," I smile handing her the money for my gas fill up.
She smiles and runs to grab the phone, probably to call 911. I stick my hands in my pocket and walk out of the store. Guess dad was right, besides gems who wanted to destroy the Earth for so long, there's also horrible humans in this world that intend to cause more harm than good.
I'm surprised mom didn't ever see these kinds of humans. It makes me wonder what drove her to protect this world in the first place. Stepping back into my car I start it up and back on the road again I went. But as time went by I could feel eyes slowly closing. So I go off the side of the road so my car wasn't in the way of others that wanted to pass by.
I crawl into my back seat and lay down on a pillow I put in the back for just this occasion. My mind drifts back to home. Wonder how the gems are doing without me? I know it hasn't been long, but it probably feels like forever for them.
Pushing all those thoughts away, I shut my eyes and let the warm feeling of sleep take me.
Lapis's POV:
I feel a hand touch my shoulder that makes me startle awake. Some part of me thinks it's Steven, finally coming back to hold me and kiss me and tell me he's in love with me. But all I find is my roommate Peridot. "Oh.. Hey Peridot," I slowly sit up."Are you okay Lapis?" She sits next to me.
"Yeah.. I'm fine why do you ask?" I grip my pant leg tightly.
She gestures to the portrait of Steven and all the colors of paints splashed all over the floor. I take a deep sigh, feeling my tears bubble up again. "I-I.." I can't get a single word out so Peridot just pulls me agaisnt her and hugs me tightly.
I return the hug, squeezing her. "I miss him..."
"Me too Lapis," Peridot sighs.
"What are we going to do without him here?.. It's just not the same!" I squeeze even tighter choking on more tears that I'm surprised are even there.
"I know Lazuli, but we need to be happy for him. We all know he needed this after his monstrous melt down. None of us would want to see him like that again. He's done too much for us to feel like that," She strokes my hair as I slowly calm down.
I know she's right but deep inside my gem, it disagrees. He would've been happy here. We could visit more often, get him back into Little Home School it would be great! No.. No it wouldn't he would've probably broken down again...
"Are you guys still crying over Steven? My goodness we need to let him live his life!" I shoot my head up from Peridot''s shoulder to see Bismuth standing there.
She notices my expression and silently beats herself up for even saying what she did. "Oh.. My bad."
Peridot gestures her over so she kneels down to pull us all into a hug. "I know it's rough guys, but we can get through this. We're the crystal gems for a reason, we never give up. And I certainly won't give up on you guys."
I can't help but smile a little as me and Peridot hug her tightly. She's right we need to let Steven do his own thing. Maybe sometime we'll see him and I can finally tell him how I feel. Even if he's with Connie I have to tell him or it's going to shatter me.
I close my eyes for one final thought. Stay safe out there Steven. Please come back soon.
Well we kinda got both sides this time. This is how this fic will go into Steven and Lapis's perspectives. I promised I'd update this again and I'm keeping it. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter and I'll see you all in the next one, laters. :)
