Much to Madam Pomfrey's astonishment, Harry's back had healed rather quickly and after no more than two days was Harry already permitted to leave the hospital wing.
It was rather late at night when Madam Pomfrey let him go but Harry wanted nothing less than to see Haven again, no matter the time. He knew her well enough to know that she wasn't sleeping yet at this time.
Even after all that time, Harry still wasn't set on what to say to her. He could hardly tell her about everything he had been feeling lately, every desire for her that sometimes had little to do with anything sexual. Harry supposed he could apologize but he needed her to do that too - or at least, consider stopping the dangerous things she was up to. Harry was already happy to hear she was giving up on chasing Antonin Dolohov.
What Harry did know was that he needed her to realise that he cared for her a lot. Maybe that would make her see how much it pained him to see her like that so much.
Harry stalked through the empty, dark corridors, all the way from the hospital wing to the staircase of hell. It was quite a large castle and the two places were on each end of it so it took a lot of time before Harry was in the corridors of the seventh floor.
Slowly but surely, Harry was raging with anticipation of telling Haven exactly what was on his mind. Their argument may have lasted for nearly four weeks now but they rarely spoke a word in that period of time. The last time they raised their voices at each other was at the top of the staircase of hell.
It would have been so much easier to pretend this never happened and just continue on with their lives with a smile on their faces but Harry knew for a fact that neither of them could manage that. Neither of them could pretend for long and it would only hurt them in the end.
Harry felt like losing someone who was never really his.
When Harry turned around the last corner to the secret passageway behind the tapestry, he walked into someone. Harry was already coming up with a hundred excuses as to why he was still up at that time but he soon recognised that it was Haven who ran into him.
Just the person Harry was looking for.
"Where are you going?" Harry asked with a frown. He already suspected the answer to that.
"I'm pretty sure you'd stop me if I told you," Haven said quietly.
Harry looked her up and down, his eyes trailing over every inch of her body. She wasn't sleeping in his sweater anymore, like that one time when she had a bad hangover. Instead, she opted for a thick but low-cut sweater and very thin and loose sweatpants.
An abrupt ache to see her waking up in that, right next to him in his bed appeared very tempting.
"Haven, please, will you just -"
"No, let me through," Haven cut him off immediately and tried to manoeuvre past him but Harry put a hand on her arm.
"Can you listen to what I have to say for a moment?" Harry begged, though his anger made his voice raw. He saw the shift in her eyes when she noticed it as well.
"What do you want to tell me?" Haven asked him softly but threatening.
Harry wanted to take a step back but he didn't. Her eyes studied him like a hawk, both in a deep frown.
"Are you going to tell me about how unstable I am? About how I'm practically useless if I can't deal with myself?" Haven started.
"I never said that and I didn't mean it like that, you know that," Harry countered quickly.
