When the week of the NEWTs finally arrived, Haven had never been more jealous of the first years than when she dragged herself through the numerous tests and exams the professors had laid out for her.
Looking out the window of the Transfiguration classroom when she just began her NEWT exam, she could see some tiny Hufflepuff Gryffindors playing out by the Black Lake in the hot weather. Haven would give a lot for that as well.
Luckily, the Transfiguration NEWT was one of the last - only the long dreaded Potions test still stood between her and the internship and free, relaxed time outside by the lake. Haven silently made plans in her head to drag Harry with her to the other side of the lake where they had shade from the trees so others couldn't eavesdrop or watch them.
She longed for some private time with Harry, and Haven wasn't picky on the exact place. After going at each other in the hallway at the bottom of the staircase of hell, Harry and Haven had little shame for doing it anywhere else really. The Quidditch changing rooms and the Hogwarts Express weren't even safe from them, and those were some of Haven's favourite spendings with Harry.
She was going to miss him. Surely, Haven wasn't going to like France for the first couple of weeks, in all likelihood longing to see and feel Harry again, but she just had to get over that and then she'd be fine - as she was convincing herself. She would finally be free from the suffocating places of Great Brittain and finally just be.
If only she could get past the Potions test with a score higher than Average - the directors of the hospital that offered her the internship required at least an Exceeds Expectations from her in the subject but even after the month of preparations Haven made for the test, she was still insecure.
Though she hadn't minded at those moments, and she certainly didn't regret being with Harry, Haven wished she hadn't let herself get distracted so often. First with the Quidditch practices she indulged in for a week and then the various rounds of shagging Harry - it had all been fun, lots of fun even, but now Haven was unsure about her knowledge and final limits.
After easily finishing up her Transfiguration exam, Haven handed it to Professor McGonagall who sat in front behind her desk and gave her a sweet smile. It felt nice to have Professor McGonagall's confidence. Especially when being the very first to finish the exam. The proud smile Harry gave her when she passed his table purred in her chest.
When Harry too had finished his test, they had little time for cosy relaxing. Instead, they went down many staircases all the way to the dungeons where the Potions exam was to take place. Surprisingly enough, Haven didn't feel as nervous as she expected to be after all those weeks of obsessive preparation. She could feel all her cares starting to slip away as Professor Slughorn announced the start and Haven was not sure that was a good thing. An angry feeling pitted low in her stomach but Haven ignored it, putting all her energy into perfecting the Love Potion Antidote she was assigned to make.
And after long and hard work in the overwhelming fumes that hung around them like a cloud, Professor Slughorn finally rang the little bell he had put on his desk to signal the end of the exam. Haven had not completely finished her antidote but couldn't find herself to care as much as she would have a week ago.
It was finally over. All the stress dripped off her like water and heavy weight off her shoulders.
Because it was only just past lunchtime, Haven dragged Harry with her to get some food from the Great Hall to take with them so they could sit by the Black Lake in peace. The two doomed lovers walked all the way around the Black Lake, leaving the other students behind on the west side of the lake and finding a spot half-hidden by the tall trees at the start of the Forbidden Forest.
