You were aware that your relationship wasn't normal. Most people would probably contemplate the validity of your feelings, saying things that your boyfriend Keebo would consider 'robophobic'.
Despite knowing the relationship wasn't normal, you enjoyed spending time with your boyfriend. He was an absolute sweetheart, and did anything to make sure you were happy. That also included accommodating your intense shyness.
Ever since you could remember, you were a shy person. Avoiding crowded areas, desperately hoping the teacher wouldn't assign a presentation as your next assignment; the list could simply go on and on.
You worried that Keebo would prefer someone outgoing, someone who would be willing to go out and try new things with him. He had mentioned more than once that he was trying to learn more about people everyday. Even with your concerns, Keebo made sure to reassure you as often as possible that he loved you for you, and wouldn't have you any other way.
"(Name), I love you just the way you are. You're kind, beautiful, and accepted me for who I am. As sad as it is, I know there are people who wouldn't give me a second glance because of my origins. I want you to remember that whenever you're feeling insecure or unsure of my feelings for you."
You appreciated his constant reassurance; it most certainly helped you. Keebo enjoyed spending one-on-one time with you, either visiting your ultimate research lab or even just spending a lazy afternoon at your place. Keebo made sure that whatever you did, you were comfortable with the environment.
One day after school you had planned to walk home with Keebo -as it was your usual plans-, but to your surprise Keebo stated that he had something else he needed to take care of.
"Apologies (Name), but I can't walk home with you today. Please feel free to text me if you need anything though."
You understood that Keebo didn't have to walk with you home everyday, but you did have to admit that walking home alone was lonely. Sure, you didn't like being around lots of people, but that didn't mean you wanted to be in isolation either.
Once home you did whatever you felt like doing, whether it was watching a show, participating in (hobby), or even just taking a nap. You figured whatever Keebo had to deal with was important, so you might as well just take it easy. It's not like you'd actually go outside alone.
Sometime later the same day, you received a text from Keebo. He was asking what you were doing, so you responded.
Nothing much. Just lazing around. What are you doing?
It didn't take long for Keebo to respond to your message.
I'm actually outside your front door right now. There's a place I'd like you to see, and I was wondering if you'd be willing to come with me.
He's outside your front door right now?!
Scrambling around your house, you were quick to get dressed in more appropriate clothing for going out before answering the door. You probably should've let Keebo in while you were getting ready, but that thought hadn't crossed your mind. Luckily Keebo didn't seem to mind.
"Hello (Name). I'm sorry for the short notice visit, but I just know that you're
going to love this place I found."
You smiled softly as you exited the house and locked it with your house key. The two of you headed down to the sidewalk, walking side by side. At some point Keebo took your hand in his, making you smile shyly.
"It's alright Keebo. I didn't really have any plans so it's not a big deal. But
will this place, um... Is it a place with a lot of people there?"
Keebo smiled softly as he shook his head.
"Not at all. It's a place I know you'll be perfectly comfortable at."
You found yourself letting out a sigh of relief as Keebo said this. It's not
that you weren't willing to go to places if people were there, but you certainly felt more comfortable and at ease if they were less-populated areas.
After a bit of walking you had arrived at the location. Well, you could only assume that was the case. Although you were a bit confused to find yourself at Keebo's place.
"Did you want to show off a new upgrade or...?"
Your voice trailed off as Keebo gently led you around the house. There was a fence leading to the back yard, so you could only assume that whatever Keebo wanted to show you was in the backyard.
"I remember you mentioning that you always wanted to go on a picnic date, but was too shy to go out where other people were. So I sort of set up a makeshift one..."
Opening the fence's door, you were able to see the results of Keebo's hard work. There was a picnic blanket under the large, shady tree that had lots of your favorite snack foods. There even was a pillow for you so it would be more comfortable to sit on.
You were in awe for a moment, unsure how to react. You truly appreciated Keebo doing all of this for you, but your happiness left you speechless for the first minute or so.
"Keebo, you did all of this for me? I-I don't know what to say... Thank you!"
You gave Keebo a quick kiss on the cheek, hurrying towards the picnic to get comfortable on the pillow. Keebo had to cool down his circuits from the kiss you had given him. You weren't the type to show physical affection often, given your shy nature. It had taken a lot of work for you to be able to hold Keebo's hand on a normal basis, so for you to give him a kiss...
"Keebo, is something wrong?"
Hearing your voice took him out of his thoughts, and he was quick to hurry to the blanket to enjoy the picnic with you. Even though he couldn't enjoy the food, seeing your smile as you enjoyed the food was more than enough for him. Your smile was truly precious to him, and he cherished every time he could be the one to make you smile.
You happily ate the snacks Keebo had prepared. They were homemade, so it was obvious to you that Keebo must have taken time to practice and make sure he could make it all so you would enjoy it. He probably had his professor help him with the taste-testing since he couldn't eat.
Just when you thought things couldn't get any better, the sun began to set. Beautiful blue, purple, pink, and even some orange streaks were painted across the sky. Each one perfectly merging with each other to create a beautiful masterpiece.
Having this picnic with your wonderful boyfriend, watching this stunning sunset... You really couldn't ask for more.
It may not be a normal relationship to most. It may not even seem possible to others. But for you, this was perfect.
And that's all that matters.
