Hajime found himself glancing at the clock more often during school than usual. Minutes turned into hours, and before he knew it the day was over. He became concerned when he never saw you show up to class. Throughout the school year, you had had a perfect attendance record. As such, the fact that you weren't there was quite concerning.
Hajime wanted to text you and ask what was going on, but decided against it. He figured that if you weren't at school it must be important; he'll wait for you to contact him.
A couple hours later, while doing homework at his house he received a text from you. He opened it, wondering what could've been the issue.
(Name): Hey Hajime, is it okay if I drop by your place? I happen to be in the neighborhood and would rather talk in person if that's okay with you.
Hajime could only imagine what you had to talk about, and responded.
Hajime: Of course. I'll leave the door unlocked so you can just walk in. See you soon.
(Name): Yeah, see you.
Hajime finished up the question he had been working on when you had arrived. You were quick to find Hajime, your face still stained with the tears from previous breakdowns. Hajime frowned, standing up when he saw you.
"(Name), are you okay? No one hurt you, did they?"
You and Hajime were quite close, almost like siblings or best friends with how much the both of you cared for each other. Your families considered the other family, and as such you weren't surprised by Hajime's reaction. You shook your head.
"No, it's not that... I-I... It's..."
You could feel the tears building up once more, and Hajime removed his school stuff from the couch so you could sit down. He sat next to you, a hand on your upper back. He knew that it would be best to wait for you to speak rather than trying to pry it out of you.
"I'm here, don't worry. Take your time. Do you want me to get you some water?"
You shook your head.
"No thanks, I'm good. I... I received a message early this morning... that... m-my... my f-father passed away... I-It was completely out of the blue; h-he was a healthy person, so why...? W-Why did he have to die?"
The dam of tears finally burst, and you broke out in sobs. Any words you may have said were incomprehensible. Hajime didn't say anything, but rather pulled you in for a hug. He didn't mind if his shirt became stained with tears, or if you gripped a bit too tightly. It was clear you were suffering, and Hajime wanted to do whatever he could to help bring you comfort.
"I-I.... I-I... Dad was... h-he didn't..."
Hajime began to rub small circles on your back, letting you ramble and say whatever you needed to say. He didn't want to interrupt you, knowing it was important to get everything out.
"I-I..." You pulled away, "I-I'd like some water, if that's still on the table."
Hajime nods, standing up.
"Of course. I'll be right back."
Hajime scurries off to the kitchen, grabbing a large glass and filling it with water. He was about to head back when he glanced at the freezer. Grabbing a bowl, he pulls out (flavor) ice cream, knowing it was your favorite. He fills it quite generously, grabbing a spoon before returning.
"Here. And I also, um, got you some ice-cream as well."
You took a sip of the water before setting it on the coffee table. You smile weakly, taking the bowl from Hajime. You took a small spoonful, filling your mouth with sweet (flavor) flavor.
"Thank you Hajime..."
"Of course. I'm just glad I can help. I can't imagine what you're going through. If you need to cry more, feel free to. Whatever you need to feel better, I'll do my best to do for you."
You smile, setting down the bowl of ice-cream so you could hug him again. His hugs were really comforting, and just being with him was comforting in general. You two had known each other for a long time; if anyone knew how to help you feel better, it'd be Hajime.
"Do you want to stay the night? I can order whatever you're hungry for, and we can watch that show you mentioned the other day. Uh... (show name), right?"
You nod, wiping away a couple of tears that were spilling out.
"Yeah... T-That sounds great..."
Hajime nods, finding the TV remote and handing it to you. He then pulls out his phone.
"So, what'll it be?"
"(Restaurant)."
"On it."
While it would obviously be a long and difficult journey to feel better, Hajime was going to be there every step of the way to help. There's a part of you that may never heal, but with Hajime there to support you... You may be able to continue on with your life; for yourself, as well for your now-deceased dad. It's what he'd want for you, after all...
