(y/n) couldn't believe it... She was now part of a killing game, which forced ultimates to kill each other. The stress of it all was starting to get to her, and she could feel herself breaking down.
For a time, she just avoided everyone, and isolated herself in her room. That is... Until someone reached out to her.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
(y/n) wiped away her tears, and tried to look semi-cheerful as she headed to the door.
Opening it, she was shocked to see that it was Rantaro who was very visitor.
"Rantaro? What are you doing here?" (y/n) questioned with a sad tone in her voice.
"Well, I've noticed how you've been continuing to isolate yourself in your room for some time now. I'm worried about you." Rantaro explained.
(y/n) frowned.
"There's no way you could possibly already care about me. We've only known each other for a few days... Plus, how could anyone care about someone else in this situation that we're in? We've already had our first killing with Kaede killing Shuichi..." (y/n) explained, as tears started to form.
Rantaro then did something that took (y/n) off guard; he pulled her in for a comforting hug.
"Yes, there is. I care about everyone, and you're no exception. True, we may have only known each other for a short time... But it's these harsh circumstances that we need to create strong bonds, to prevent another killing from happening." Rantaro explained.
(y/n) was at a loss for words, for she honestly didn't know how to respond.
"Now..." Rantaro's voice trailed off, as he pulled away, "Let's go get you something to eat. I'm guessing that you haven't eaten in a while, right?"
(y/n) slowly nodded, unable to find the will to fight back.
... And that was just the start of a beautiful relationship forming...
Since that day, (y/n) let herself be a bit more open with everyone, and actually interact with the other students.
Though she mostly stayed with Rantaro.
He made her feel secure, safe, and overall relaxed about what kind of situation they were in. Even though these were trying times, it was Rantaro's reassuring words that helped (y/n) make it through the terrible circumstances they were being forced to endure.
... And she soon felt herself falling for Rantaro...
Meanwhile, Rantaro was having a mental conflict with himself. Normally, he tended to treat those around him like his siblings. Especially those who were around his age. That's just the type of person that he was. But (y/n)... (y/n) was different. He found (y/n) as someone who was a real treasure to have, and that needed to be protected due to her fragile mental state. He found that soon after meeting her that he was falling for (y/n). But he didn't want to make things awkward between the two of you.
'Maybe it'd be better if I just continue to treat (y/n) as I always do... As a sister...' Rantaro thought to himself.
And so, that's what he did.
Rantaro would help you with whatever you needed, and give you advice whenever you wanted it. But... He had a unique way of treating you.
"Thanks for the help. These desserts turned out lovely." You thanked, as you finished the last bite of your dessert.
"You're welcome. Happy to help." Rantaro said with a smile.
"Hmm... Maybe one more..." (y/n) said, as she reached to grab another dessert.
Rantaro cut you off by taking the plate of various desserts away.
"Too much sugar is bad for your health." Rantaro lectured.
(y/n) pouted.
"Why do you always do this to me?"
Rantaro looked confused.
"What do you mean?" Rantaro questioned, genuinely lost on what his friend was asking.
"You always treat me like I'm beneath you, as if you know better. It's like... You're my big brother..." (y/n) explained.
"(y/n)..." Rantaro's voice trailed off.
(y/n) sighed, before standing up.
"I think it'd be best if I go now. I need some time to myself..." (y/n) stated, before walking away.
Rantaro just watched as you walked away.
That's when he realized his mistake to treat you like a sibling.
'I need to fix this...'
(y/n) was in her room, violently punching her pillow, before pushing her face onto the victimized pillow, and screaming loudly.
Though there wasn't much sound audible because of the size of the pillow.
'Why did I have to be such a fool?! Great going (y/n)... You've probably destroyed your relationship with the only person you feel close to now... I need to fix this...' (y/n) thought, before looking around for something she thought would be the perfect thing to give to Rantaro.
It was a poem she had written for Rantaro a while ago, when she realized that she had liked Rantaro. But (y/n) had never been brave enough to give it to him.
'Perhaps this will be able to get through to Rantaro? Maybe, just maybe... I can finally confess my love for him...' (y/n) thought.
Getting her hopes up, she grabbed the poem, and opened the door to find Rantaro.
To her surprise, she saw that Rantaro was about to knock on her door when she opened it.
"Oh, hey (y/n). You going somewhere?" Rantaro questioned.
"Yeah. But I was going to find you, so this works out." (y/n) explained.
"Guess that does work out..." Rantaro's voice trailed off.
Followed by that statement was an awkward silence that lasted for about twenty seconds.
"So, uh... I was wondering if you'd be willing to do something with me tonight..." Rantaro stated.
(y/n) gave Rantaro a look of confusion.
"Depends... What is this 'something'?" (y/n) questioned.
"It's a secret. But I promise that it's nothing bad or sexual! I'm not that type of person." Rantaro explained.
(y/n) would have raised an eyebrow to anyone else, but she trusted Rantaro, and could tell that he was telling the truth.
"Alright then. What time tonight?"
"Does 10:30 pm work?"
"After nighttime!?" (y/n) questioned in shock.
"Yeah... It's the only time I can give you want I want to give you. You have to trust me on this one." Rantaro explained.
(y/n) thought for a moment, before deciding to trust Rantaro with this.
"Okay. I trust you. I'll see you then." (y/n) said, before beginning to close the door.
But Rantaro stopped (y/n) from doing so, by using his hand to stop the door from closing.
"Wait."
"What is it?" (y/n) questioned, curious to know what Rantaro would need in addition to what he had already said.
"You said you were looking for me, right? Well, I'm here. What do you need?" Rantaro questioned.
(y/n) quickly hide her note behind her back. Luckily for her, the way the door was partially closed made it so Rantaro couldn't see this action.
"... I'll tell you tonight..." (y/n) shyly responded.
Rantaro was a bit confused, but went along with it.
"Okay. See you tonight then." Rantaro said, before closing the door.
Once (y/n) couldn't hear Rantaro's footsteps anymore, she took a deep breath.
'Tonight... Tonight's the night I tell him how I feel... I guess all I can do now is wait and hope for the best...' (y/n) thought to herself.
While (y/n) was secretly getting herself to look better than usual, Rantaro was getting his own surprise ready. He was hoping that this surprise would make up for everything he had done wrong recently.
'This has to work... It just has to work!' Rantaro thought to himself, as he continued to get him surprise ready.
Soon enough, nighttime came around, and (y/n) was dying of nerves. She knew that Rantaro wouldn't be showing his surprise until 10:30pm, but that didn't help calm (y/n)'s nerves in the slightest. If anything, the anticipation of what would happen only made things worse for the nervous girl.
She didn't think Rantaro would try anything violent or sexual, but that wasn't confirmed or denied, since Rantaro refused to tell her anything about the surprise.
That was another thing that made (y/n) nervous; what on earth would they be doing? What was this secret of Rantaro's that he could only show at nighttime?
Too many questions circulated through (y/n)'s head, and before she knew it, it was 10:30pm.
Knock. Knock. Knock.
Glad (y/n) didn't eat dinner that evening, she timidly walked to her dorm room door, and opened it to reveal that it was Rantaro... Who was holding a rose.
"I'm glad to see that you didn't fall asleep on me." Rantaro said with what sounded like a sigh of relief in his tone.
"How could I? I've been worried as to what we'd be doing, that it was impossible for me to do anything, let alone sleep." (y/n) explained.
Though she wished she could have taken it back as soon as she said it.
'Great. Just great. One minute into our conversation, and I've already made a fool of myself... Amazing work (y/n)!' (y/n) sarcastically thought to herself.
"Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. I didn't realize that this surprise would place so much stress on you. I apologize. Here." Rantaro apologized, before handing (y/n) the rose.
(y/n) smiled, and she took the rose.
"Thanks." (y/n) said, before placing the rose on a nearby table.
... She'd definitely have to win a vase at the casino now...
"Well, shall we go?" Rantaro questioned in a calm manner.
... Despite his internal nerves screaming out in worry...
"Yeah, let's go." (y/n) said, before exiting her dorm room with Rantaro.
Rantaro then led (y/n) out of building, and led her outside.
That's when (y/n) realized that she hadn't ever been outside her dorm room at night time, since she was always scared to leave on her own. So, doing this started to scare her.
Rantaro noticed this, and frowned.
"Don't worry. There's nothing to worry about. If anything happens, I'll protect you." Rantaro reassured (y/n).
With that one statement, (y/n)'s worries were washed away.
(y/n) then let Rantaro lead her to a location that she was unaware of.
It was so dark outside that (y/n) couldn't tell where she was going, or recognize where she was.
"Rantaro, where are we...?"
"Don't worry, I promise that it'll be worth it." Rantaro reassured (y/n).
After a while of walking and placing trust in Rantaro, (y/n) finally saw what Rantaro was trying to show her.
Funny how it worked... Her surprise had been with her ever since they had exited the dorm room building.
Her surprise was the stars above her, in addition to a small picnic that awaited her.
The picnic had all of (y/n)'s favorite snacks and treats on a beautiful blanket.
"Rantaro... This is amazing..." (y/n) said in awe.
"I know this line is overused, but... It's not as amazing as you..." Rantaro said with a slight blush on his cheeks.
Even though it was a cheesy line, (y/n)'s cheeks started to heat up a bit.
"T-Thanks... You're pretty amazing yourself, y'know?" (y/n) said, trying to sound confident.
... But was secretly dying inside due to fear of rejection...
Rantaro smiled.
"Thanks. You don't know how happy it makes me to hear that coming from you... So, shall we sit and enjoy the desserts as we sit under the stars?"
(y/n) nodded happily, before sitting down with Rantaro on the blanket.
The two of them then enjoyed the homemade desserts made by Rantaro, while sitting under the beautiful stars.
(y/n) then decided that it was probably time that she gave her poem to Rantaro, and pulled it out of her pocket.
"Here... I want you to have this..." (y/n) shyly admitted, before handing Rantaro the poem.
Rantaro was a bit confused, but took the poem regardless.
As Rantaro read the poem, he could feel the love and passion coming from the words of the poem.
But the best part of it all was the relief that washed over Rantaro as he realized that he not only liked (y/n), but that she liked him back.
"I'm... Sorry if this makes things awkward, but I can't hide these feelings anymore... I love you, Rantaro!" (y/n) admitted, looking away in embarrassment.
Rantaro was nearly at a loss for words, but knew that he needed to say something, or else (y/n) would get worried and insecure about confessing.
"... It doesn't make things awkward. If anything, it only makes things better for our relationship..."
(y/n) looked confused.
"What do you mean?" (y/n) questioned.
"It makes things better because I love you too..." Rantaro's voice trailed off.
(y/n)'s heart nearly exploded upon hearing this.
... Her crush... Liked her back...!
"I... I... I'm so happy to hear that... To know I'm not alone anymore... And that I'll have someone with me during this killing game... Thank you, Rantaro..." (y/n) said with tears of joy streaming down her face.
Rantaro then pulled (y/n) in for a comforting hug, just like the one they had during one of their first meetings with one another.
But this time, Rantaro added to the hug, by giving (y/n) a gentle kiss on the lips.
Being romantically inexperienced, this made (y/n)'s blush only deepen.
Luckily for her, she wasn't the only one romantically inexperienced, and Rantaro was also left a blushing mess.
"I'm so glad you're with me, Rantaro..." (y/n) stated, as she laid her head on Rantaro's lap.
Rantaro smiled.
"... As am I to have you with me, (y/n)..." Rantaro replied.
(y/n) then closed her eyes, and soon had fallen asleep under the starry night sky.
After seeing that (y/n) had fallen asleep, Rantaro picked up (y/n), and carried her back to her dorm room.
Using her own key, Rantaro unlocked (y/n)'s dorm room door, and helped (y/n) onto her bed.
Before leaving, Rantaro gave (y/n) a kiss on the forehead.
"Sleep well... My Princess...." Rantaro whispered, as he exited (y/n)'s room.
Even though she was asleep, (y/n)'s mind processed what Rantaro had said, and she replied to this in her sleep.
"... Goodnight... My Prince..."
