"Did you see him?" the girl near my locker asks her friend group

"Did you see him?" the girl near my locker asks her friend group. There are nods, giggles, smiles and laughs. I gulp back nostalgia and listen.

"He's hotter in person. Nothing like when he's on the field. He looked so out of place so I totally took the moment to help him out. By the end of next week, I'll be on a date with the bad boy in town."

One of them snorts, sceptic. "You do know that he's not actually a bad boy right? Dude's got a trust fund and a company waiting for him. The coke thing is fake. Someone planted it to make him look bad."

"Technically, we all have trust funds." They laugh, "And, he got expelled remember?"

"And accepted into Thornton," she deadpans. "He just got an upgrade."

I turn away then, softly shutting the locker door to walk with Isaac. He was supposed to have had a talk with his coach.

"Did you hear the news? He actually gave up his position. Coach is bloody mad. Even I can't believe it."

I shrug at Isaac, "He's trying to amend I guess."

It's not like I told any of them about Tuesday or last night. That was a whole different conversation that didn't need to see the light of day. It was between Michael and I, and partially with Collin and Dean.

"Don't you think it's coincidental though? The same day Collin decides to enrol here, he leaves the team. Now coach has to have trials for the new captain. It's going to be Collin for sure."

"Hey, you still have a chance," I try to encourage him.

He snorts, "With what practice? Anyway, I don't want captaincy. I just enjoy playing." I bite my lip and feel the wretchedness Michael should be feeling. Isaac didn't even want to be captain. He would have handed the position to Michael if he was chosen.

"Oh have some sense of competition Winston."

"I'd rather not anymore. Experience has taught me to back downing is safer." Any retort I conjured was swallowed down at the words. Did I want to poke that bear?

I cleared my throat as if to warn him, "I'm guessing Oliver is that experience."

"More or less." He was brief so I nodded and shut up, knowing better than to instigate further. "I uh...I decided I wanted to forgive him. I can't hold a grudge against the guy who had also saved me. Plus it makes up for not having a gift."

"Gift?"

"Oh. It's his birthday. Today."

"You're joking." I refrained from outright laughing at the bitter humour in all this. King of parties wouldn't be throwing his 18th birthday party for sure.

The blond runs a hand through his length hair, "Afraid I'm not. I think the girls decided to have a dinner at least. I know he did a lot of shit but..."
