"I-I love you."

I pause. Everything seems to stop yet still my head spins. I blink and then everything moves again, just as suddenly as it stopped. The blood in my veins burn inside, but the cold still hits my body.

This was not happening. I'm dreaming. Wake up!

His green eyes bore down on me, chest caved from the confession. Breathlessly he waited, like I waited under that window.

Speak!

"You don't. Stop lying to yourself Michael." Saying his name was harder than telling him to stop.

"I do. I do." His eyes shift across my face like the sudden revelation just dawned upon him.

"Saying that isn't going to help you. I'm no longer playing any games with you."

"This isn't a game for me either. I'm being serious here." I shake my head. "Why can't you just accept it?"

"Because," I sigh and look away shaking my head, "love isn't real. It's just us clinging on to someone because we feel alone." I look back at him. Shattered; his face tells it all. "I'm sorry you feel alone. But you can't cling on to me with some word that has no value."

"You might like me, but you don't love me. If you...look, if someone loved a person, they wouldn't have ever thought of doing what you did." Something unleashes inside me, and I no longer wanted to keep it tamped down.

He saw it my eyes too as he tried to defend himself. "But that was before I knew what I was feeling."

What was he feeling?

"It doesn't matter. This is just a stupid crush." I take in a deep breathe. "We're teenagers on a rooftop, who just broke into a drug dealer's office! We're not in love, this is just fucking adrenaline!"

We? You should have said he!

"B-"

"Love is complicated Michael! It involves trust, care and time. You don't know what it means. I don't know what it is either, but it's definitely not this!" I point a finger at him.

"But I do like you! I didn't want to, it just happened. How was I supposed to know you'd come barging into my life? That I'd get wrapped in your craze and-and fall for you? I didn't plan this, C."

"You just think you love me." My eyes widen as I find my argument. "You know why? I know why." I chuckle. "It's because we are both messed up. Because I don't judge you. I'm the one person that is no longer repulsed by you, and I don't even know how after what you did." I look him dead in the eye, "I haven't forgotten Michael. I never do. Nor do I forgive. But I accepted all your damned faults. But...but that doesn't mean... You can't expect me to love you back and think we'll have a happily ever after just because I accept your baggage.
