About a week passed without much happening. Belinda had already laughed at me when she revealed to me that she knew what happened at school.

"And here I thought Thornton was a fool proof plan to keep my mischiefs from the world." I laid a hand across my chest, dramatizing.

"You're only embarrassing yourself Camille. Getting dunked on by Carson's daughter? You have efficiently lost the respect of the entire school, especially the ones on top of the social ladder. I don't know why Evora's child would even be tied down to you in the first place. Then again, the inherited daftness must be tiring to work with."

I tsk, "The Evoras are rather smart. One step ahead of you always." That makes her look up from the designs displayed on her iPad.

"And how would you know that? Is this Vivian girl's friendship some power play of yours? Or Francine's? Now that would be a new low."

"Not any further from your bribery right?" Belinda only smiles.

"Call it what you wish. It's merely business. Something you would never understand."

"Seeing as I have my father's scheming mind, I think I'll be quite fine. Better in fact."

She laughs, oddly sarcastic, "Right." I frown but I knew I couldn't stoop to ask why she was laughing. It would only be giving into what she wants. And only to be shut down anyway. So I had simply walked away.

My mother, on the other hand, chose to reply to my text two days later informing me she was going to therapy two days a week and that the doctor had prescribed sleeping pills. But she obviously complained that they weren't strong enough.

It made me recall the times that I stole her sleeping pills from her medicine cabinet whenever I couldn't sleep myself. Her doctor had given her one prescription because she had a higher pressure rate than ever before that week. She used the same prescription to get the tablets ever since, whenever she needed it, which would be always.

Usually I would have needed them whenever the two would go for each other's throats, shouting or muttering about one fault or the other. My mom always stood her ground and I pitied dad at most times because it seemed like he had done nothing wrong.

But I was a naïve fourteen year old. Only when I grew up I realised that her accusations might have held some truth in them.

It was a Friday, and my dad was going to the office. Mom was riding with him to go to her job. As they were leaving the house, I notice my father's laptop charger, sitting by his desk since yesterday.

I shouted to my mom, "Hey, ask him if he needs his laptop charger."

"He says he didn't take it out of his bag!" I pick up the charger and go outside and find them inside the car, ready to go. I lean down to my mother's window as she rolled her glass down.
