It had been a couple of months since you had been introduced to the shadow world, and more or less lived in the institute to be close to your now best friends.
You had bonded with everyone and they all treated you as if you were their own family.
At least all but one, Alec had never seemed to really like you.
You don't know what you had done to make him loathe you, it was as if he on the first day he met you had decided that he didn't even want to know you.
This however didn't stop you from falling hopelessly in love with him, and how bittersweet that was.
You longed for him, for his touch or just for him to look at you.
But he didn't spare you a second glance.
"You should just go up and talk to him"
You were brought back to reality when Clary appeared by your side.
You looked away from Alec who was talking to the head of the Singapore institute and turned to look at your friend.
"What's the point, he'll never notice me, not even when I've tried my best to look pretty" you sighed and looked down at the black floor length dress you had chosen to wear for the ball, knowing it was Alec's favourite colour.
"You know I wore this dress because it's the only colour he ever wears, I just feel so stupid now" you added as you looked back over at him.
You felt your heart shatter when he smiled at the man he was speaking to and raised his champagne glass to his lips, taking a sip.
Your gaze flickered down along his body, drinking in how good he looked in that black suit, marveling at the fact that someone could even look as perfect as him.
He suddenly looked back over at you and his hazel eyes locked with yours for just a second before he looked away.
You quickly raised your champagne glass to your lips and chugged it all in one go, before you slammed it down on the table in front of you.
"Let's dance" you said before you turned to Clary and grabbed her hand before you dragged her off towards the dance floor.
You wouldn't let Alec ruin your night, you just wanted to enjoy one night with your friends without constantly wishing you were his.
Alec turned his head towards the dance floor when he saw a flicker of black twirl around at the edge of his vision.
He felt his heart skip a beat when he saw you dancing with Clary. You threw your hair back, your hair falling along your back in waves as you laughed.
He was so transfixed by you that he forgot about the conversation he was having and the reason he was at the ball in the first place, which was to socialize with the heads of the other institutes.
