Simon had always watched you from afar, when he saw you the first time at the Institute he knew he was in love, it was love at first sight for him.

But for you, he couldn't tell. He could never understand how you felt for him, if you just viewed him as a friend or perhaps as something more.

And there he was now, sitting perched up on a chair in the institute with Clary, listening to her talking about how everything had changed since she had discovered the shadow world and he had become a vampire.

But Simon wasn't really listening, his eyes shifted over to look at you were you where standing on the platform in the training room with Jace. Your hair was pulled back into a ponytail and you were twirling a combat stick in your hand as the two of you circled each other.

His heart swelled with affection when you sprung forward and flung your stick at Jace, who quickly raised his own to block your blow. A smile graced your beautiful features and Simon saw how you said something to Jace.

He shifted in his seat to lean closer to the two of you, straning his ears to hear what the two of you were taking about. But he was quickly pulled back to reality when Clary nudged his shoulder.

"Simon, are you even listening to me?" She asked as he turned to look at the red head, her eyes darting back and forth to try and capture his gaze.

"Yeah, sorry. I zoned out for a bit" he chuckled slightly as he flashed Clary a smile.

"Were you fantasizing about [Y/N] again?" Clary asked as she looked over his shoulder at what he presumed to be the woman in question.

"What, no. Of course not" Simon blurted out as he tried to brush Clary's comment aside.

"Simon, I know you. It's obvious you're still head over heels for her" The red head persisted as she cocked her head to the side. "Why don't you ask her out?"

Simon's eyes widened as he stared at his best friend in disbelief. "Are you crazy, she'd never like me" he said as he glanced over his shoulder to look at you.

You were standing still talking to Jace as you took a swig from your water bottle and wiped some sweat away from your forehead. You noticed someone looking at you and turned your head only to see Simon staring at you. A small almost unnoticeable blush covered your cheeks, and you raised a hand to wave at him with a smile on your lips.

Simon quickly turned back around to look at Clary in embarrassment, failing to noticing the look on your face as he turned around, your face falling when you were instead met with his shirt clad back.

"She's way too beautiful to like someone as ordinary as me" Simon mumbled out, before he stood up and walked away, leaving both Clary and you staring after him in confusion.
