Alec had admired your courage and your compassion as soon as he met you. You had rushed into that alley to save him from a demon, something that you would never be able to stand a chance against. But you still had tried to help him to the best of your capabilities.

And in all honesty, who did that for a complete stranger.

He knew that you didn't see it that way, that you thought he was a rude and cold hunter who wanted nothing to do with you. But that was just because Alec couldn't find it in himself to actually tell you how he felt. He was scared you wouldn't feel the same way. But it was slowly tearing him apart, watching you from afar and seeing the disappointment in your eyes when he pushed you away every time you tried to be kind to him.

Alec had a hard time showing his feelings to people, afraid he'd get hurt in the process. And since he had never experienced love before he was deathly afraid of it, and of the heartache he was sure would follow.

You on the other hand, wore your heart on your sleeve and always tried to spread positivity around yourself. You tried to befriend everyone at the institute and you quickly found a friend in both Clary and Simon.

You and Simon bonded almost immediately over your geeky interests and you helped him through his struggles about being a vampire when Clary was off searching for Valentine with Jace.

You were currently sitting on the floor of the training room with Simon, your combat stick lying across you lap as you recovered from the training the two of you had endured just now with Hodge.

"I think I'm getting the hang of this now" you said as you to a swig from your water bottle.

"You're obviously a natural, I'm a vampire and I can't even keep up with Hodge's training" Simon sighed as he laid down flat on his back, his hands resting behind his head as he glanced up at the ceiling.

You lied down next to him and stared up at the ceiling as well.

"Do you miss it?" You asked.

"Miss what?"

"Being human" you said as you turned your head sideways so that you were looking at Simon's profile.

Simon turned his head so that his eyes met yours, his hand grasping to get a hold of yours as he held your gaze, his brown eyes clouding over with instant sorrow. "Every day"

Alec was heading towards the training room to let out some of his pent up frustrating onto one of the punching bags.

He had been carrying this weight over his shoulders for the past few weeks, debating back and forth with himself whether he should feel you about his feelings or not, and it was eating him up inside.

He knew that he wanted to be with someone and that someone was you. He wanted to mean something to someone, to have someone to hold and talk to about everything that was spinning around in his mind.

He wanted you, but he didn't know how to approach you.

He reached his destination still completely caught up in his own thoughts when he suddenly saw you laying on the floor. A small smile spread across his lips when his eyes travelled over your figure, but that smile disappeared rather quickly however when he saw Simon laying by your side.

"Don't you have work to do [Y/N]? And I thought you were banned from the institute Simon" Alec spoke up in a harsh tone as he marched over to the beanbags.

He could hear Simon scramble up to his feet and mumble a quick bye to you before he went off on his way.

"What was that all about?" You asked as you walked over to Alec who was securing some white tape to his hands.

Alec glanced your way as before he continued with his work of wrapping up his hands. "He's not allowed in the Institute, you know that" he answered curtly.

"I'm not talking about Simon, I'm talking about us. Why are you ignoring me all the time, have I done something to upset you?" You questioned as you folded your arms across your chest.

Alec sighed deeply before he turned to look at you again. "It's complicated"

"Then uncomplicate it, tell me what's bothering you" you encouraged as you reached out and laid a hand upon his forearm.

Alec stared down at your hand, his heart beating wildly as he felt your soft skin against his.

"I can't" he choked out before he turned so that his back was facing you, your hand slipping off his arm in the process. "Clary and Jace just got back from tracking Valentine, you should catch up with them" he mumbled before he went on to assault the punching bag.

You blinked back tears that threatened to well over in your eyes. "Look, Alec I'm sorry if my presence in the Institute is bothering you, I know you don't really have a thing for mundanes. But you don't have to be so rude" you stammered out before you turned on your heel and dashed out of the room.

Alec turned to look at your receding form as you ran out the door. A curse word left his lips as he punched at the bag with such brutal force that it began to creak from its hinges.

He had flunked again, too scared to actually tell you that you were the someone he wanted. That he wanted to be someone to you, your significant other.

And now he had probably ruined everything, for all he knew you probably hated him right now.
