Steve parked the car infront of Tony's house, but no one got out. They all just sat in the car for a minute, staring at Tony's front door. They were all nervous, but no one was as nervous as Sage. She also felt a bit guilty for not keeping in contact with him. They hadn't spoken since he got sick, they had barely even spoke then.
But that was five years ago.
She knew what Nova would be saying to her right now if she was here. More like teasing her.
Unfortunately, Nova wasn't here to push Sage out of the car and tell her not to be pathetic that it's only Tony.
Something around the lines of the worst thing he'll do is think he's threatening you when he's actually commenting on his huge ego.
Sage chuckled at the thought before frowning. They needed Tony for this to work, and if she wanted it to work, if she wanted Nova to actually say it instead of saying it in her head, Sage was gonna have to step out of the car.
And so, heart banging against her ribcage, Sage mustered up all of her adrenaline and courage and opened the car door. She stepped out and closed the door just as everyone else followed her lead and got out of the car.
Sage looked around and admired the scenery around Tony's house. She had to admit that it was beautiful.
There was huge tree's and grass that couldn't be any greener. A lake that glistened and shined when the sun hit it just right.
While admiring the place Tony chose to settle down at, Sage heard laughter and turned her head to the side to see Tony and a little girl.
Tony was right there, holding a young girl no older than five years old in his arms.
Even though Sage was happy for him, she couldn't help but feel a slight pang in her heart at the thought of Tony with his real family, his real daughter.
Sage always thought of Tony as a Father figure and she was sure he thought of her as daughter, until he had one of his own.
Now she knows how Nova felt when Clint revealed he had a family of his own too.
Tony spotted them all standing there at the car out of the corner of his eye when he was walking past, going back inside.
He continued to walk and ignore them but Sage went after him and everyone followed.
Upon hearing their footsteps, Tony turned around and they all froze. He stared at them for a second before Nat nodded her head at him, and he nodded back.
They took that as the sign that it was okay to follow him.
"Now, we know what it sounds like", Scott stammered as Tomy poured everyone out some odd coloured looking drink.
"Tony, after everything you've seen, is anything really impossible?", Steve asked him.
"Quantum fluctuation messes with the Planck scale which then triggers the Deutsch Proposition", said Tony. "Can we agree on that?"
"So is that yes?", Sage furrowed her eyebrows in confusion.
"Thank you", Steve said to Tony as Tony handed out the drinks.
"In layman's terms, it means you're not coming home", said Tony.
"So it's a no", Sage raised a brow.
"I did", Scott argued.
"No, you accidentally survived", Tony shook his head. "It's a billion- to- one cosmic fluke. And now you wanna pull a...what do you call it?"
"A time heist?", Scott reminded.
Pietro snorted and Sage whacked him on the arm without even looking at him causing Pietro to pout and rub his arm.
"Yeah, a time heist, of course", Tony laughed, although Sage didn't think he found this funny in a humourous type of way. "Why didn't we think of this before? Oh, because it's laughable? Because it's a pipe dream?"
More in a, this is so stupid it's laughable sort of way.
"The stones are in the past", said Steve. "We could go back, we could get them."
"We can snap our own fingers", said Nat. "We can bring everybody back."
"Or we could screw up more than he already has, right?", Tony rhetorically asked.
"I don't believe we would", said Steve.
"Isn't it worth the risk?", Sage asked.
"Gotta say it, sometimes I miss that giddy optimism", said Tony. "However, high hope's won't help if theres no logical, tangible way for me to safely execute said time time heist. I believe the most likely out come will be our collective demise."
"Not if we strictly follow the rules of time travel", said Scott. "All right? It means no talking to our past selves, no betting on sporting events-"
"Woah, woah, woah", said Pietro. "Are you saying that your plan to save the universe is based off of that movie Back to the Future that Sage made me watch?"
"No", Scott scoffed unconvincingly.
"Good, had me worried there", said Pietro. "I'm no science geek, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't work like that."
"Pietro", Sage gave him a pointed look.
"What?", Pietro shrugged.
"Tony", said Nat. "We have to take a stand."
"We did stand", said Tony. "And yet, here we are."
"I know you got alot on the line", Scott said to Tony. "You got a wife, a daughter. But I lost someone very important to me, alot of people did. And now we have a chance to bring her back, bring everyone back and you're telling me you won't even-"
"That's right, I won't", Tony cut him off. "I won't even. I can't."
"Tony", Sage said gently with glazed over eyes. "I would have done and still would do anything for you, you know that. But I need you now. If there's even a slight chance that I can bring Nova back, I have to try, even if it means dying doing so, I'm willing to take the risk."
Tomy looked almost convinced and that he was going to agree until he heard footsteps and Morgon ran up and jumped into his lap.
Sage stood up and wiped her eyes, going over to stand with Pietro.
"Mommy told me to come and save you", Morgan told Tony.
"Good job, I'm saved", Tony assured his daughter, hugging her and standing up. "I wish you guys were coming here to ask me something else, anything else. I'm honestly happy to see you guys, I just...Oh look, the tables set for eight-"
"Tony, I get it", said Steve. "And I'm happy for you, I really am. But this is a second chance."
"I got my second chance right here, Cap", Tony told him. "Can't roll the dice on it."
Sage isn't gonna lie, that kinda hurt.
"If you don't talk shop, you can stay for lunch", Tomy told everyone, walking back inside.
"Well, he's scared", said Nat as they all walked back to the car.
Pietro had his arm around Sage, she's been awfully quiet.
"He's not wrong", said Steve.
"Yeah, but, I mean, what are we gonna do?", Scott asked. "We need him, are we gonna stop?"
"No, I wanna do it right", said Steve. "We're gonna need a really big brain."
"Bigger than his?"
