"Why can't you just be happy for me?"
"How can I be happy if the only person I love is setting himself up for heartbreak?"
Sunwoo is right there. Chanhee doesn't see him. Maybe Eric does.

It was about 4 in the morning and Sunwoo was tossing and turning. He couldn't shut off his mind for the life of him. At first Sunwoo didn't pay attention to the initial question Chanhee had asked him, he was a little busy being in disbelief.
Do you have feelings for Eric?
He couldn't stop thinking about it. And truth be told he wasn't sure if he was ready to know the answer. He didn't know how he felt about Eric.
But he did know how Eric made him feel. With Eric, Sunwoo wasn't spinning and he wasn't twirling. Eric kept him grounded in a sense. He liked that feeling, the feeling of comfort.
Eric and Sunwoo had a lot in common, they both loved art of all forms, they equally appreciated art, they both had at least one vaguely absent parental figure. They had just connected on so many levels, it was just a matter of time before they got close.
But that didn't necessarily mean Sunwoo liked him, right?
The blond boy was just easy and fun to be around. It was easy to be happy around him, he had the personality and social skills of a labradoodle.
But deep down Sunwoo did feel something. Albeit very, very, very deep down. But it was there.
When Sunwoo and Eric were together, it was so easy to lose track of time. Getting lost in each other's presence. It was like they had their own little world, their own atmosphere.
Sunwoo had never been able to connect with anyone the way he did with Eric.
Sunwoo sighed sharply and kicked off the covers, he leaned over and turned on his bedside lamp.
He sat up against the headboard of his bed and sighed once more.
Then as if on cue, he received a call.

He laughed softly at the bitter irony then picked up.
[Italic - Eric] [Normal - Sunwoo]
"Hey, did I wake you?" "No, I couldn't sleep anyway." "Me either. I didn't even expect you to pick up. I didn't know who else to call." "Is everything okay?" "Yeah, my parents got into a fight again. This time about my sister. Now my dad is sleeping downstairs and my mother won't stop crying." "I'm sorry, Jae." "Thank you. I just needed someone to talk to." "Well you know you can always count on me." "Yeah. I know."
Neither of them said anything for a few minutes, it just felt nice to know that there was someone on the other end of the line.
"So I might have lied to you that night at the party." "What do you mean?" "I told you I hadn't started the project for the Art Gallery contest. I'm actually almost finished with it." "Really? What did you make?" "A sculpture, about finding an escape from your harsh reality. Sometimes your escape isn't a place, sometimes it's a person." "That sounds beautiful, Eric." "Just wait til you see it at the big exhibit."
Sunwoo liked hearing Eric laugh, even if it were so soft he probably couldn't hear it if he didn't listen closely enough.
"So my sister is flying in next week, I don't know what to expect. I haven't really heard from her since we moved." "How long is she staying?" "Only for about a week, she can't stay long because of school. I just hope she talks some sense into my mom. That's what they were fighting about. My mom says we only invited Aries back to tell her she's an alcoholic. Which is half true, but even I know that Aries has mild separation anxiety." "It must be hard, she thinks her family is turning against her." "Yeah, but it's hard to convince her that we're not when she has her head buried in the sand."
Eric had such a tough home life, Sunwoo couldn't even begin to imagine how much Eric has been through.
The fact that Eric hasn't rebelled after all he's been through was astonishing. He remained kind hearted and positive.
"Please don't pity me, I can practically hear it through the speaker." "No, I just- I really admire you." "Me? Why?" "Well I don't know anyone that's gone through half of what you've been through and still wears their heart on their sleeve. It's admirable." "Not really, it's just tough skin."
Again there was a moment of silence, a comfortable one.
Sunwoo felt a lot better now having actually spoken to Eric. His mind was at ease. Eric had that effect on the people he interacted with.
"Eric?" "Hm?" "Thanks for calling. I needed this." "Me too. I'm glad I did." "I think I can sleep a lot better now." "Me too. So I'll see you tomorrow at school?" "Same time, same channel."
Sunwoo heard Eric laugh softly on the other end.
"Goodnight, Sunwoo." "Goodnight."
Eric hung up first.
Sunwoo crawled back under his covers and pulled them up to his chin.
He turned off the bedside lamp and fell asleep with a soft smile on his face.
