Chapter 8

We were greeted by Minerva McGonagall. She walked us into the great hall where we were greeted by the headmaster and the many other Hogwarts students. In front of us was the hat that would decide my fate.

I wouldn't be punished for not being placed in Slytherin however, I just know that I will end up punishing myself.

"When I call out your names, I expect you to come up to the front to be sorted" the Scottish lady spoke. I was trembling on the spot and I think that Bella noticed because I felt a soft hand grab mine.

After a while, I felt the hand leave mine. Bellatrix had been called up. She confidently sat on the stool and the hat was placed upon her head. It wasn't long until the hat called out 'SLYTHERIN'. She stood up and made her way over to the table joining Lucius and Rodolphus, her robes turning a deep chartreuse colour as she walked.

It felt as though I was waiting an eternity until my name was finally called. "Y/N Y/L/N". My nerves grew as I slowly made my way up to the front. SLYTHERIN' I sighed with relief. There was a cacophony of cheering from the Slytherin table as I headed over to sit next to Bella. "See, I told you there was nothing to worry about. I am so proud of you" I smiled at her widely and squeezed her hand under the table.

We paid less attention to the sorting ceremony now since we had all been sorted. That was until a young boy came and sat with us. "Hello, I'm Tom. Tom Riddle" he said, holding his hand out for Lucius to shake. He took it reluctantly and said, "Malfoy, Lucius Malfoy" I sniggered at him being so formal. Lucius shot me a mean glare as I introduced myself to this newcomer. "Y/N Y/L/N" He nodded intentively. Bella and Rodolphus introduced themselves but I noticed Tom was looking at me as if he was trying to figure me out.

When he stopped staring I nudged Bella to get her attention. "Have you noticed how Tom keeps looking at me?" I whispered. She shook her head confused as to why I would care.

I mean, I didn't particularly care it's just... weird.

The feast began and we filled our plates up with food. By now I was starving since I barely ate my toast this morning due to nerves. I should have listened to Druella when she told me to eat all of my breakfast.

The feast was the best meal I have had in ages. Not that I didn't get nice meals at home it's just, this was different.

When the meal ended, we were guided to our new dorms. We followed a Slytherin prefect to the dungeons. I stayed close to Bella to keep warm and to not lose her. She was known for wandering off on her own.

"Girls dorms this way and boys the other" the prefect said before leaving us alone. Bella and I would be sharing a dorm with another girl named Dolores Umbridge. We hadn't properly been introduced to her so we were yet to find out what she was like.

I put my trunk at the bottom of the bed and grabbed some parchment and ink, I decided to write a letter to Druella.

Dear Druella Black,

We got to Hogwarts alright and I am relieved to have been placed in Slytherin. I'm sharing a dorm with Bellatrix and another girl called Dolores Umbridge. We have been shown to our dorms and it is in the dungeons! It is pretty cold but there is a fireplace in every room. The interior design in the common room and dorms are amazing, you would love it. However, nothing compares to home, you have such lovely taste Druella. I am missing you very much already. I promise to write often and also, keep an eye on Bellatrix for you.

I handed the letter to my owl and told him where to send it. And with that, he flew off into the night clutching my letter as he soared.

"What was that Y/N?" Bella asked, "oh it was just a letter to your mother, letting her know how today went" she nodded and smiled. Probably thinking she should do the same, but she didn't.

I stood up to get changed out of my robes but when I did, my head started to spin and everything went fuzzy. Everything just went black so fast?
