Before The Storm..

Chapter 2

Recap:

Shaking my head to dissipate any lingering pain, I broke in to a run while scanning the doors that flew around me. Each one had a name neatly taped on to it so I supposed that was the name of the patients.

After a couple more doors I found one that had “ZOEY SUNNIVA” plastered on it. Squashing a sigh of relief I quickly burst in to the room taken it all in at once. As soon as it clicked I tried to control the urge to scream.

 My best friend was sleeping peacefully in her hospital bed without any injury in site, that’s was peachy, what made me try not to scream was the fact that ……..she wasn’t alone.

CHAPTER 2

LUCIENNE’S POV

 “Close the door and close your mouth Miss Lucnar, it’s impolite to stare” The dark, cold man demanded.

Trying not to make any sudden movements I quickly did as he said while keeping my eyes on him every second. I know it sounds paranoid but I didn’t trust this guy very much, for one, he wasn’t a doctor or a nurse since he wasn’t wearing either a lab coat or scrubs. Instead he had on a simple black suit, with a white dress shirt and a slim black tie, he looked to be about 25 years old.

But that wasn’t what was making me nervous; it was the fact that he looked straight out of a spy movie, with that cold calculative smirk on his face, big body build, close cropped dark hair, and let’s not forget the long painful looking scar he had that started just below his ear and disappeared somewhere under his shirt. Nop, can’t ever forget that.

But being the smart person that I was I tried to ignore all this and matched his smirk with a frown.

“Who are you and what the hell are you doing in her room?”  I said in the coldest voice I could force out of my throat.

This only made his smirk turn in to a full-fledged grin, making my frown turn in to a scowl. He turned over to look at my best friend who was still sleeping peacefully before directing his cold gaze over to me once again and answered. “I’m Agent Scott from the orphan division of the US Department of Defense; you see it has come to my attention that now you and Miss Sunniva are now orphans and I was just waiting for her to wake up seeing as she is the most kind of you two, even so if I had known you were awake I would have gone to you” he said still grinning.

The orphan part of his little speech made my throat close up, and tears started threatening to spill over. I saw how my grief stricken expression started making his cold façade crumple a little, showing a little bit of pain underneath, but I wasn’t having that, better to face a cold man than one that understood my pain, made it easier to be nasty towards him.

Straightening my shoulders and swallowing my tears I shot back “And what those the US Department of Defense have to do with us? As far as I’m concerned if anything were to happen to my parents Nanna Lucy has custody over me. I don’t know about Zoey, but if she doesn’t have a legal guardian in waiting I’m sure Nanna will take her in”

“Fair point, but that doesn’t apply when the legal guardian in question is 80 years old and not in any shape to take care of two 16 year olds, and even if she were, I am obliged to remind you that both your fathers worked at the US Department of Defense, transferring any legal guardianship of their kids to us” he said while giving me a proud smirk, as if in saying ha ha I won.

Well what in the... “That’s total B.S., besides what the hell would you want with us? Were just kids, and I am obliged to remind YOU that our dads were retired from all that crap so you don’t have ANY right over us! ” I screamed at him, I couldn’t help it; this guy was a total ass and was saying that I couldn’t go live with my only living relative after the traumatic death of the rest of it? Just because years ago my dad worked for them?
