Recap:

“Are they gone?” Lucienne whispered softly after a couple of minutes as she turned to look at Nathaniel. The movement left them nose to nose giving Lucienne a close up view of his lips. With great effort she dragged her gaze from his lips to his eyes only to find him starring at her lips as well. Nathaniel sensed her gaze on him and turned to look at her eyes. Eyes that were now filling up with tears, making them glisten a pure emerald green. Automatically Nathaniel brought his hands up to cup her face and with the pad of his thumb he wiped her tears away before they could fall.

“I think so.” Nathaniel whispered making Lucienne’s insides turn to jelly. But before Lucienne could lean in to kiss him, or worse, sneeze and cover him in germs, his phone started buzzing to One Directions ‘Best Song Ever’, its upbeat sound effectively breaking the atmosphere the enclosed space had created between them.

Suddenly feeling claustrophobic Lucienne got out of their hiding place, dispersing the protection spell. Nathaniel answered his phone with a comical look on his face, a cross between embarrassment and annoyance.

“What?” Nathaniel grumbled in to the phone. The person on the end of the line responded making him roll his eyes in response even though the other person couldn’t see him.

“I was actually thinking of making myself a home at the woods.” The sarcastic note didn’t seem to be lost on the caller given the long retort that followed.

“Yes sir. Right away sir.” Nathaniel replied with an amused scoff and hung up. He turned towards Lucienne, whose face didn’t betray any emotions. When Nathaniel didn’t say anything she shrugged and made her way to the girl’s dorm, a confused Nathaniel hot on her heels.

“What? No teasing, no hideous rant, no screaming my ears off?” Nathaniel asked sarcastically, secretly dying to know why the girl that was foolish enough to go out in to woods alone at night wasn’t throwing a hissy fit. Lucienne merely kept walking, at first deciding to ignore his questionings, but then thought better on it.

“Cause it’s none of my business.” She replied curtly, still shacked up with the kiss she had almost shared with this unnerving boy. The only thing she wanted right now was to get to her dorm and forget it had ever happened. She didn’t need any of this bullshit messing her already-nerve wrecked life.

But Nathaniel wasn’t having that. In one long stride he put himself in front of her, blocking her way out of the forest.

“Why aren’t you demanding any answers from me? Don’t you want to know why we were almost clawed to shreds?” Lucienne frowned at his expression, a face full of suppressed anger and mildly disguised confusion.

“Because I don’t want to know the answers. You have your secrets, that’s fine, as long as you don’t go trying to learn mine.” Lucienne pushed him aside and started making her hasty exit. Just as Nathaniel was starting to feel sorry for her (he remembered how he had found her) his brain finally caught on to whom he was talking to. To the girl that reminded him so much of her, the person that had single handedly ruined his life.

“I don’t think anyone would ever want to know your secrets.”

Lucienne winced at the hate in the comment, but she was too far away for Nathaniel to see the effect of his words on her.

Lucienne tiptoed out of her room while balancing a hot pocket and a juice in one hand, and her bag full of books in the other. Her goal? To get to first period without waking up Zoey.

Last night she had arrived to a snoring roommate and a cold dinner, something she was slightly glad about. Even after her shape shifter/annoying-fire-user-boy adventures her eyes had still been a little red, her face still a little splotchy. Lucienne preferred to feel her wrath about ditching her for dinner than her pity at seeing she had been crying.

“And where do you think you’re going?” Lucienne froze and cursed herself mentally for shutting the door so loudly. Now she was caught, and waiting for the elevator no less.

“Uhmm, school?” Lucienne mumbled around a bite of the hot pocket she was having for breakfast. Zoey crossed her arms over her chest in the universal ‘I’m waiting/And I’m angry’ pose, something she couldn’t totally pull off when she was wearing pink bunny slippers.

“Fine.” Lucienne pouted. “I was sneaking out so you wouldn’t chew me out, happy?”

“No I am not happy, how dare you do that to me. You know how much I worry about you and still you go on out and disappear to God knows were, and in a strange please nonetheless. So what do you have to say for yourself miss? Huh?” Lucienne flinched at her words but took them in stride.

Because of course she was right. It wasn’t a regular occurrence for her to pull off a stunt of this kind, but if she had been in Zoey’s shoes she would be chewing herself out to.

“I’m sorry I made you worry about me, and I’m sorry I left you waiting…” Zoey frowned at Lucienne’s pause.

“….. and?”

“And I won’t do it again, scouts honor.” Lucienne imitated a boy scout taking an oath while throwing in her little puppy dog face for effect. Zoey narrowed her eyes in a way that made an enraged tiger look tame.

“I’ll believe you … this time. But you’re under house arrest today and tomorrow.”

“You’re not the boss of me.” Lucienne replied indignantly, secretly happy she hadn’t decided on something worse.

“Just be grateful I’m not making you wash dishes.” Lucienne blanched at the prospect. She hated washing dishes with a passion. Zoey laughed at her reaction.

“Come on, you can make breakfast while I get ready, maybe that will make me lighten your sentence.” Lucienne groaned good naturedly as they both headed back to their dorm. One girl worried about her next date and the other still had a pair of silvery blue eyes fresh on her mind.
