Recap:
“And what do you expect me to do? Nothing? You have two untrained girls down there and an unconscious bastard that’s too cocky to watch his own back. Those hell hounds are going to rip them to shreds…” Nathaniel started before he was interrupted by Mildred’s frantic voice.
“Lucienne took down the alpha wolf; two wolves are preparing to attack her now.” Both boys turned towards the screen, but before the wolves could try anything the mechanical voice spoke again.
_--_ CROSSFIRE_--_ Instantly Lucienne’s magical circle and a bunch of obsidian colored energy balls appeared around there summoner, the crossfire bullets circling around her as if to protect her from any danger.
………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………
“Zoey get down you idiot.” Lucienne tackled her best friend to the ground as a hell hound lounged at her. One of the crossfires followed the mutt and crashed in to its body creating a firework of guts and gore.
“I thought I told you to protect Jason!” Lucienne yelled over the growls of their opponents as both girls quickly got up, seizing the knife at her friend’s waistband Zoey turned around and plunged it in to a sneaky hell hounds head. After Lucienne retrieved the knife from the dead wolfs carcass the girls turned so they were now back to back.
“Jason is safe, I can maintain the barrier from over here, besides I can help you, together we will get thru this quicker.” Both girls opened fire at the remaining wolves, in minutes they finished off the seven that remained.
“It seems that’s…” Lucienne began before she was tackled by behind. Zoey screamed but Lucienne didn’t hesitate she plunged her knife in to the creatures side as she kneed him in the stomach. It rolled off of her and Zoey instantly started shooting at it. Lucienne tried to get up but soon found out she couldn’t. Her ankle had been crushed under the monsters weight and it appeared to be sprained, nulling the possibility of her putting any kind of weight on it.
“Screw this.” Lucienne huffed and banged her fist on the maze’s floor.
_--_ CROSSFIRE, ASSAULT SHIFT_--_ The crossfire bullets appeared again but this time they appeared to have multiplied by ten from the amount that were zooming around. Lucienne didn’t even bat an eyelash, not even at the sudden dizzy spell she felt looming over her. Pointing her hand at their target the crossfire bullets zoomed at the creature that only had the chance to give a high-pitched scream before it was obliterated.
_--_ MISSION COMPLETE_--_ In the blink of an eye the three teens were transported back in to the control rooms. Joshua ran to the elevator doors as soon as the system announced their victory. As the doors opened he quickly went to his twin’s side and, with help of Zoey, carried him out to the waiting medical team who had just arrived.
Nathaniel peaked inside the transporter and instantly rushed in as Lucienne crumpled to the ground landing in Nathaniel’s waiting arms. Without hesitation he scooped her up in his arms, still in awe over her bravery.
“Are my friends alright? Did they make it?” Lucienne asked in a sleepy voice, not really recognizing the lovely stormy eyed boy who was carrying her. Against his will Nathaniel felt his heart warming for this beautiful girl, the one that thought of other before herself, the one that was willing to put her own life on the line to save the life of someone else.
“They did love, don’t worry about that now, you’re injured, think about recovering first.” He replied gruffly. Lucienne sighed and buried her face in to his neck relishing in his wonderful spicy scent. Nathaniel jumped from the contact but soon welcomed it as he declined the stretcher one of the paramedics offered, although he did permit the, to take off Lucienne’s boot, and carried her himself to the schools infirmary all of the way marveling at how good it felt to have someone so close to him again.
“Thank you.” She whispered and soon darkness overcame her as she fell in to a blissful sleep.
……………………………………………………………………………………………………..
Zoey watched the paramedics carry Jason off to the school infirmary when she realized she never made sure if Lucienne had made it off the transporter. When she didn’t find her anywhere in the controls room or in the classroom she peeked in to the hall and she found her in the most unlikely of places, in the arms of the fire wielding British boy, Lucienne being deep in sleep. Joshua, who was right behind Zoey, noticed this too and quickly made his way to them, rage clearly in his features.
“Take your filthy paws of my friend.” Joshua snarled as he tried to cut him off. The boy simple narrowed his eyes at him, sidestepped him, and kept walking, presumably to the infirmary since Lucienne’s ankle looked swollen. Her long hair had escaped from her hair tie and was now trailing over the boys arm like a flag. Zoey tried catching up to them before they did something stupid and ended up hurting her friend but tripped in the process and was saved by the blond boy with the unsettling eyes. He smiled at her, flashing an adorable set of dimples and started walking beside her.
“I see Joshua and Nathaniel are at it again, it’s never been over a girl though.” The blond boy observed, Zoey noticed he had an Australian accent, as they both watched the one-sided argument with Joshua yelling profanities and Nathaniel ignoring him. Oddly enough, Lucienne stayed asleep cradled in Nathaniel’s neck, a fact that struck Zoey as odd since she barely knew the guy and she had trusted him enough to fall asleep so intimately with him.
“What do they normally fight over?” Shyness creped in her voice.
“Usually about who’s the better warrior, who had the better ability, although I wouldn’t call it an argument since the one that always does all the yelling is Joshua, Nathaniel normally just stares at him with disgust.” They arrived at the infirmary and Nathaniel never really did give Lucienne over to Joshua, the nurse waved him in and he gently placed her over the bed, tucking away a stray strand of hair over her ear before he left without a word. Joshua shook his head angrily at his retreating figure and went to check up on his twin. A nurse came by at that time, shooing Zoey and the blond boy away from where they had followed Nathaniel and Lucienne in to the infirmary’s reception.
“What an exciting first day huh? I’m Louka by the way, nice meeting you…?” He left the question hanging as they both took a seat in one of the receptions sofas.
“I’m Zoey.”
“Zoey, I like that, hey so I know you’re new here and all so I was wondering if you would mind me showing you around.”
“I would really like that but I’m going to have to take care of Lucienne, with her not being able to walk and all.” Zoey felt disappointed, she really wanted to get to know this dimpled boy.
“Not a problem, she’ll be good as new by tomorrow morning at the latest.” Zoey couldn’t hide the shock he felt at his words. “What? You thought you were the only one with healing powers?” He teased making Zoey blush.
“So are you free Wednesday night?” He smiled hopefully and he looked so sweet that Zoey couldn’t possibly say no to him so she nodded finding her throat oddly clogged.
“Cool, well see you later.” Louka gave her one last dimpled smile before leaving. Zoey sighed and made herself comfortable, her brain wary from all of the days excitement, she never would have expected being a spell caster would be like this.
