The prince allowed the shaken maid to calm down in his embrace and decided to ask about the incident once the boy's sniffles died down.
"Can you tell me what happened?" Felix asked softly.
"Y-your Highness! My apologies," panicking, Changbin stood up and took a step back from the prince. "Nothing happened. I- I fell, and the two wanted to help me get up," he lied.
Felix frowned, not believing the maid's words, but said nothing about it because he wanted to avoid causing him more stress. The boy looked like a scared rabbit whose heart was about to jump out of his chest any minute. He gazed at him with worry.
"Are you in pain somewhere? Are you not feeling well? You've been holding your stomach since I saw you."
Changbin froze at the question. Ever since he realized he was pregnant, he developed a protective reflex of cupping his belly. Luckily, his baby bump wasn't so noticeable yet. He could just take the hand off it and the prince wouldn't figure anything out.
"I'm perfectly fine. I apologize if I made Your Highness worry. Now if I may be excused I will continue with my duties," the boy bowed to Felix and waited for his permission to leave.
"Changb-"
"Your Highness, the queen has requested your presence," a voice of a messenger disturbed his words. The prince sighed secretly and took off in the direction of his mother's chambers.
Changbin waited for the sound of his steps to fade out before he lifted his head and proceeded to walk to the library. It will be a lot of work.
The royal library was the grandest in the whole kingdom. It was situated on the first floor in the right wing of the castle. Initially, the library was off-limits for commoners but when the queen got crowned she strived to provide unlimited education to everyone, so she instructed to open it along with royal gardens attached to it.
The library was two-story. In the middle, there was a fountain with a sculpture of the Greek goddess of wisdom. Two sets of marble staircases on both sides connected the two stories. Dozens of oak shelves contained centuries years old books and scrolls of all disciplines.
Changbin liked to spend his free time in the tranquility of the library. He loved reading. Especially about astronomy. Despite being born in a lower-class group, he knew how to read and write thanks to his mother, who taught him everything she knew.
He smiled sentimentally at the memories from his childhood; the image of the little him sitting in his mother's lap while she taught him how to spell words still vivid in his mind. Changbin wanted to learn as much as he could to educate his child later on.
He took one of the staircases and climbed to the second floor. He decided to start cleaning from the furthest bookshelf by the wall.
The boy strolled to the shelf with a small smile that soon faltered when he saw something he shouldn't; two boys kissing.
One of them, Changbin recognized as the prince of the Lee royal family. The Lee dynasty had characteristic features such as blond hair and fair eyes. The other boy was a descendant of the Han dynasty. His electric-blue hair and honey skin gave away his identity.
The maid gasped, gaining their attention and panicked. His eyes quickly averted to the floor. "M-my apologies, Your Highnesses. I did not intend t-to disturb you," the boy bowed deeply.
A peal of embarrassed laughter reached Changbin's ears. "Come on, you may rise," one of the princes said. Once the boy straightened his posture and looked timidly in the direction of the two, the blond prince continued.
"That's better," he smiled sympathetically. The boy in his arms nodded with content. "You don't have to apologize to us. You were trying to do your job. We should be sorry that you had to witness our kiss."
"Ah, no. Please do not apologize to me. I am happy for you," the maid beamed.
"Thank you," the blue-haired boy chirped and gazed lovingly at the slightly taller prince.
"If you wish to have some privacy, I will come back to clean later," he stated timidly.
"No, you may proceed with your duties. We were planning on leaving soon," the blond royalty said, and took his lover's hand into his to lead him out of the library.
"Wait!" the blue-haired prince halted his steps once he noticed the maid's raw hands. He came closer to him and without a word, he quickly took them into his and examined the scratched skin. Changbin squeaked at the sudden contact and stumbled back in bewilderment.
"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to scare you. My family specializes in medicine. I'm a physician and your hands look like something happened to them," he explained softly. "Can I see them?" he smiled gently at the maid.
Changbin nodded shyly and let the prince examine him. After a few glances, the blue-haired boy turned to his lover. "Minho can you bring a brown vial from my bag?" The said prince obeyed and left for his chambers.
"Are you okay with telling me what happened to them?" he asked the maid once they were alone. Changbin's eyes widened. What should he tell the prince? He didn't want to lie again, but he couldn't say the truth either.
"Your Highness-"
"Call me Jisung."
"But-"
"No buts. We are probably the same age, so think of me as your friend, okay?"
Changbin nodded timidly and continued without looking the other into his eyes. "I, uh, I scratched them when I fell earlier."
"I know it's a lie. I wouldn't believe it even if I wasn't medically trained. Tell me what really happened. I promise I won't tell Minho. I sent him for the medicine on purpose." the prince encouraged.
Changbin gulped. He didn't want to snitch, but something about Jisung made him comfortable enough to tell him the truth. "Someone stepped on them," he confessed in a whisper-like voice.
"You were bullied?!" the prince hollered.
"No, no! I-" the boy tried to deny.
"It's outrageous! How can someone bully a pregnant person?!"
Changbin froze in place. "Y-you know about it?"
"I'm a physician, remember? Your body language says it all," he explained amused, but his smile faltered as the boy started trembling. "It's okay! There's nothing wrong with carrying a baby. No one will hurt you here," he tried to calm down the maid. He gently cupped the boy's cheeks, making him lift his gaze to his face.
"If anyone ever bullies you again, tell me or Minho. We will be there for you. I could also do some check-ups if you wanted. I'm sure the baby is healthy, but medical care is important during pregnancy," the blue-haired boy explained. "Of course I won't tell Minho if you don't want me to but if anything ever happens to you, please don't be scared to turn to him," he smiled tenderly at the maid who nodded and stroked his head.
The blond prince came back with the medicine shortly after.
