Changbin let out a small huff and wiped the sweat off his forehead. He had spent four hours cleaning the second floor of the library. The boy cringed at the feeling of his uniform sticking to his moistened skin. Sometimes he wished he could wear the female version with a skirt. He didn't dare to say it out loud but a skirt sounded like heaven compared to long pants.
Maybe if I were a girl things would be easier for me.. Maybe then the prince would like me... No, even if I were a girl I'm still a nobody. After all, he is engaged to a princess. The maid sighed hopelessly and headed out of the library.
It was lunchtime and the whole castle staff was eating in the kitchens. The boy wasn't hungry but he knew that not eating regularly would be bad for the baby.
He strolled down the first-floor corridors to the other of the castle looking outside the grand windows. The green scenery always made him smile. Although the castle was marvelous what fascinated the boy more than the interior was the royal gardens. He adored scenting flowers and herbs, laying on the grass, observing wildlife; it made him remember his home situated in the rural part of the kingdom.
"I should probably tell my mother about the baby," he thought and bit his lower lip out of nervousness. He was sure that his mom would accept it and be a good grandma to his daughter or son but he feared her questions about the father. He couldn't tell her who he was but he didn't want to lie to the person he loved the most in the world.
Upset, Changbin stepped inside the kitchens. The boy filled his plate with vegetable stew and sat down at the furthest end of the dining room. Just as he was about to pick up the spoon it got snatched. He lifted his gaze and saw the maid who bullied him earlier waving the utensil in front of his face.
"Did you want to eat it?" she pointed at the untouched food. "Do you think you can enjoy your meal after slacking off for half of the day? I even got scolded by the prince because of you. If only he knew that the flea he is providing food to is a slob I wouldn't be the one who got a reprimand."
"Can you give me the spoon back?" the boy asked politely not wanting to show how anxious he was.
The maid scoffed. "Yeah right. You have to eat because you are pregnant!" the girl laughed viciously catching the attention of the rest of the castle staff.
Changbin could feel judging gazes on him. The maid folded her arms and continued bullying him. "I can't believe someone wanted to touch a pest like you. Do you even know who is the father? I bet you were whoring around and got pregnant by a running dog," she mocked.
"I am the father," suddenly a booming voice echoed through the dining room, and the staff fell silent. The girl turned her head in the direction of it and the smirk on her face faded. Her knees buckled and she bowed shakingly.
The steps halted right behind Changbin and the person put a hand on his shoulder in a protective manner.
"I, Lee Felix, the second prince and an heir of the Lee dynasty, am the father," he repeated, "therefore the baby he is carrying is of royal blood," he announced. "I won't allow anyone to hurt or bully Changbin or there will be consequences," the royalty growled loud enough to be heard by every present person.
"And you," he addressed the malicious maid, "are fired."
Within a second the prince grabbed the boy's hand and pulled him away from the kitchens leaving the begging for mercy girl and astonished staff behind.
