Rylee's POV

I was nearly running up the stairs because the meeting for the task force would start in a few minutes and we would meet in one of the small conference rooms on the seventh floor. I was breathing heavily and I definitely knew that I needed to do some cardio to get into my old shape. I could take the elevator but I preferred the stairs. The doctor gave me the green light for some easy workouts.

When I came out the stairwell two agents left the elevator. They didn't really notice me and walked towards the meeting room. I followed them because I assumed that they might be part of the task force as well. They were both between 30 and 40. One with skin like almonds, short black hair with graying temples and a little circle beard. The other one had red hair, freckles and a shaved face.

When I walked into the room a third man was already sitting there. I already knew him. Chad Becker. He was what everybody would call attractive and the type of guy that turned a woman's head. Tall. Dark. Handsome. Asshole. He asked me on a date the first week I started to work here in Washington. I said No because I didn't want to start my work life with an affair with a colleague. He didn't take it well and was still pissed that he didn't get into my panties. Later I heard some rumors about him and other female agents. When he saw me, he directly went into douchebag mode.

'Hey Sugar. What do you think about bringing me a coffee?' What the hell. I wished I could say that this was the first time an agent called me names or asked me to bring him something just because I was a woman. The other two agents were looking at me, asking themselves if I was there for the meeting or if I could really bring them a coffee. To their luck they didn't ask me. They saw the badge at my hip and they realized I was here because I was an agent. I already liked them.

'What about no, Sweetie pie!'

'Nice start for the meeting. You already give each other nicknames.' I heard Adam's voice behind me. Great. Just great. I just gave him an apologetic smile and took a seat next to the man with the red hair. As soon as I sat down Adam started to introduce us and didn't really react to what he heard when he entered the room.

I already knew Chad but it was interesting to hear why he was here. He was a weapon specialist and he could speak some languages which could be handy. Jim Finley was the redhead. He was very good with computers and could hack nearly everything. I asked myself if he could hack Friday but I assumed that nobody could really do that. Derek Moore was the attractive man with the beautiful dark skin and he was a former part of a profiling team. I already heard about him. There was the rumor that he was a human lying detector. I was introduced last and Derek Moore was turning towards me.

'It's an honor to meet you. I heard great things about you. You pushed me off the list at the academy with the highest scores for sniper shots.'

Before I could answer anything Chad interrupted us. I saw it in his face. He was jealous. 'Now that weall know each other. Maybe we could start with the meeting and why we are here.'

He knew that I was a big competition for him, because we had a similar College education, we were both good with the most weapons and we both had a thing for languages. I was fluent in French, Russian, German and Spanish. He spoke Russian, Romanian and Chinese. On paper we had similar things to offer. He had a few years more of experience but I knew Walker and how he was behaving. I observed him for a long time and that was my biggest asset.

I had the bad feeling that I would work alongside Chad for the most time. I wish I could say that he wasn't a good agent but that wasn't the case. He had a high rate of success with cases, respect of his colleagues even with the rumors of affairs and he was one of the bests in his class at the academy. He was not a bad agent, just a bad person.
