Rylee's POV
'Put your guns down.' I told my team while I still stared at Steve. Shouldn't he be in Wakanda? My team refused to listen to me. I wasn't their boss, so the only one who they would listen to would be Adam. Steve pushed Nat, who wanted to come my way, further behind his back, still unsure if somebody would shoot at them and he was ready to protect her with his life.
'Damn it, you idiots. This is Steve... Captain America and Black Widow. Put your fucking guns down!' Normally I would never talk to my boss like that but he was aiming at the two most important people in my life. Adam threw a glance my way and I knew I definitely had to pay for my outburst but he put his gun down which was all that matters. Derek and Chad followed his actions finally and Nat came out from behind Steve.
I wanted to jump into Steve's arms but I was still at work. And I just shot at him. Twice. Both were warning shots but he could be upset about it anyways. Nat didn't care that I was working and that I could have shot her. She walked over to hug me. I felt the looks of my team on us. I never told them that I knew these two and the FBI agents who ran through my apartment didn't say anything either.
'I thought you were a better shooter, Ryles. You missed'
'I never miss' I looked over her shoulder at the wall. There was a fading graffiti of a man and I put the bullet right between his eyes. Nat turned around and followed my gaze. I saw her smile.
'You should be happy that I chose to give you a second warning shot.' She chuckled while Steve just raised his eyebrows.
'You were the sniper who shot at us?' I nodded and gave him an apologetic smile but before I could say something we heard a car outside. I looked over at Adam who gave Chad and me a sign that we should check who was coming. I saw that Steve wanted to come with me. I thought that he wanted to protect me, now that he knew I was here. And he didn't even know anything about the dead agents or the death threats.
I turned around and Chad and I made our way to the front entrance. Since we were partners we just needed a few hand signs and the other one knew what to do. If he wouldn't be such an asshole most times I would enjoy working with him. I took my spot at one of the windows and looked through the rifle scope. I held up two fingers and Chad knew that two vehicles were on the way.
They came closer and I realized that these were two of our cars. Adam told two agents earlier to come back to pick us up and stay for the day shift. I secured my rifle and Chad and I walked back to Adam and Derek who talked with Steve. Nat was nowhere to be seen. I assumed she looked for whatever they came for. I informed Adam about the incoming agents.
'Good. I'll tell them what to do and then we go back to the hotel. We will talk there.' Before I could even answer he turned around and walked outside. I knew that I shouldn't have screamed and I definitely shouldn't have called my boss an idiot.
'You fucked up, Sugar. But when you are very very nice, I could talk with Adam.' I rolled my eyes and walked over to Steve while he started to talk with Derek but Derek excused himself and walked after Adam.
'Hey Captain.' I gave him my sweetest smile.
'Hey... SUGAR' Ouch.
I flinched a little when he called me that in a very harsh voice and the smile fell off my face. I took a step back. I forgot his enhanced hearing. He put a hand on my arm and pulled me a little closer again.
Steve's POV
When I saw how her beautiful smile disappeared I realized that I acted like a jealous idiot. I knew that she didn't have any interest in that guy. She looked disgusted and not flattered and Nat told me enough to dislike the guy. Sometimes I still felt like the little guy from Brooklyn that no woman looked at and a gorgeous dame like Rylee was more than I have ever imagined. I pulled her closer to me.
