One of the reasons I prefer getting into an empty elevator- I can fix my appearance, without being conscious. I decided to wear my black sweater today, with the dirty green wide legged pants, with a side fishtail. And as I looked at my reflection, I smiled.
The level of self adoration going on in here, I needed the elevator to be empty.
After the party day before yesterday, I'm back to work on a new Monday morning, because honestly, I haven't decided if I have to quit yet. Or when, if yes. So for now, I'm just going with the flow.
The doors open wide, and I walk out. The first thought that hits me is if Hardin is here. Because he is what, a co-owner now? But I shrug the thought right away, because there's no use dwelling on it.
I reach my cubicle, Sean sitting beside it with a cup of coffee in his hands.
"Hey!" I chirp out, taking the sling of my bag off my shoulder and he looks up with a bright smile.
"Good morning, sunshine."
I settle in my seat, placing my phone aside and a moment of drastic confusion clogs my head, as I notice a box lying on my table. Once again, I'm reminded of Hardin and I wonder if this is any of his antics with nervousness.
"Well, go on open it. I've been waiting for you to arrive, so I can find out." Sean urges, and this means that it's here even before he arrived.
I lift up the cover, slowly putting it aside, and I gasp at what lay inside.
A sleek, beautiful, gray laptop rested peacefully on the base, and the look of it said that it had to be brand new and top of the line.
"Whoa-ho, you ordered it?" Sean asks beside me, and I turn to look at him, with a curious look.
"No, my laptop broke the other day. In fact, I- I needed one." I say, still wondering about the unexpected package.
"Ooh, and I need a million dollars!" He brings his hands forward playfully, as if something would drop into them form above and I chuckle.
"Chandler?" I say with a smile, and his eyes brighten.
"Way to go, baby!" He forwards his hand in a fist bump that I mirror, with a laugh.
Looking down at the box, I carefully take the device out, half afraid that I'll break it again. Beneath it, in the empty box is a small note.
Strictly for professional use.
-SH.
Reading the professional part, first of all I worry if this is billed on my stipend. Because if yes, then this would eat up a good part of it. And secondly, that it's not Hardin. Now I'm equally relieved and tensed at this. SH?
Sean?
I turn to look at him through narrowed eyes, and he opens his mouth in surprise.
"If after all this time, you still don't know my initials, then I'm officially offended."
I roll my eyes, and try to remember his full name that he had told me the first day we met. Sean- Edwards. That's right. Not him, then.
"Do you think I should make the presentation again? Because I really don't want to deal with another Kayla session." I ask him, tiredly putting the card aside and decide that I'll ask the clerk if he knows anything about the laptop.
Sean smiles at me, with a mischievous glint in his eyes.
"You won't have to worry about that. The Dexter Project is off." There is a relief and a somewhat pride in his tone while I just stare at him, wide eyed.
