Ch 48

(4 months later)

Tuesday was a day Anna had been waiting for. It was the day of the Annual Tennis Matches between Ridgewood High and Rockwood High. Miles Ford was playing in the match. Anna and Miles relationship had been a little rocky these days due to the fact Miles had tennis practices and couldn't find time to spend with Anna or be in contact with her. Anna was down but with awesome friends like us, she couldn't stay down forever.

The Country Club Tennis Courts was where the matches were to be held. The Ridgewood students each sported some clothing article or accessory that was blue and white. Rockwood students had something of the colours green and white.

Anna, Frannie, Michelle, Roxy, Hayley and I made our way to the stands. Allison wasn't with us as she was in the cheerleading team. Adrian and Mark had gone to wish Miles and rid him of any last minute nerves. Anna messaged him whilst the rest of us conveyed our wishes through the boys.

"Ladies and gentleman, today is a very significant day in the sporting history of Ridgewood High and Rockwood High as today is the 85th Annual Tennis Match of these two schools. Without further hesistation, let me intorduce you to the players of both schools we have here today." the compere announced.

We clapped and cheered for the Ridgewood players as they were announced but none of us were paying attention until the compere announced Miles.

"Today we have with us a tennis player who had shown great talent in this sport since his primary days. Going on to clinch most of the championships, he is a player who would definitely make Ridgewood High proud just as he made St. Clare's Prep proud of him. Ladies and Gentleman, let's give a big round of applause to Miles Ford!"

At hearing this the whole Ridgewood High stood up and cheered. Miles' talents were well know to all in Ridgewood High and I daresay Rockwood High too. Anna frantically waved a banner she had made for Miles which read out 'GO MILES, I LOVE YOU!!!!' with little blue and white foam hearts all around it. She screamed as loud as she could "COME ON MILES FORD!!!!" As her friends, we too screamed loudly. No matter how much loud we were, Miles pretended to not notice us. He waved to the other Ridgewood High students but took great care in not turning his head at us.

Anna was dissapointed at the gesture and we wondered what was up with him but we didn't hesistate to soothe Anna.

"Hey Anna, he must be real nervous or maybe he didn't see us. Don't take it too hard." Hayley tried soothing her.

"Maybe he wants to surprise you at the end or he has something planned." Michelle quipped in helpfully.

"Or maybe some boys gave him a dare. You know how boys are." I said nonchalantly.

Anna gave us a small smile but we could understand that she wasn't cheered up at all. We sighed but couldn't tell anything because the matches had just started.

Miles had played really well in his matches, both singles and doubles. He was a brilliant player and his serves were powerful, it was the singles finals and Miles was the last competitor to play for Ridgewood and Shane was Rockwood High's last competitor. This was going to be an interesting match as Shane was a really brilliant player and both of them were equal in talent and skill.

We looked on as they faced each other in the court. It was Shane's serve first and Miles sent it over neatly but Shane managed to send the ball back to Miles. Miles won the first point but soon shane caught up but Miles manged to win the first set. The second set was highly competitive and Shane clinched it. The third set was really fierce. There were fierce serves and strokes and Shane seemed to be leading ahead with 3 points but Miles managed to make him leading with 1 point. We weren't sure who would win but we hoped it would Miles. As the match was ending we really thought Shane would win with the super fierce stroke he sent over to Miles but Miles surprisingly hit the ball really fiercely and Shane lost because he couldn't send the ball in time and also something happened as Miles hit the ball.

The ball and his arm came in contact and as soon as he sent the ball over to Shane, Miles collapsed in pain holding his arm. We were concerned and horrified at the same time. All of us were frozen for sometime but were brought out of it by Anna crying and running over to Miles just as the paramedics rushed over to him. Hayley, Michelle, Anna, Frannie, Adrian, Mark and I all ran over towards Anna and Miles whilst Allison ran away from the cheer leading squad towards us.

Rockwood and Ridgewood students were all in a frantic state. Shane was feeling really guilty and was apologizing repeatedly whilst the Ridgewood Tennis players assured him it wasn't his fault and to not feel guilty.

"Miles! Miles! Please be conscious! This is Anna! Miles! Please!" Anna called out frantically to Miles who was almost losing consciousness.

His eyes were unfocused but they landed on Anna "Anns, I l-love y-y-y-you..I-I am s-so s-sorry." Miles rasped out as he lifted his good arm to stroke her face and his eyelids fluttered close.

"MILES! NOOOO!" Anna cried. The paramedics gently pried her away from Miles and I held her sobbing form together with Frannie whilst Hayley, Allison, Michelle and Roxy tried to soothe her.

Miles was carried to the ambulance and was put in with his concerned and shocked parents.

Miles woke up after 3 days. Those 3 days were the longest days in any Ridgewood High student's life. Miles had broken his arm and had a concussion and also broken a few other bones when he had collapsed in the court that day.

Anna and Miles had managed to patch things up and were a lot closer. It was the last school day before summer holidays, that Miles came.

We celebrated the graduation to Sophomore Year in school with take outs as there were many to fly from NY that evening. Hayley was going to Brazil. Frannie was off to California. Anna was off to Seychelles. Roxy and Greig were off to Canada to meet Greig's family (Greig's parents were the only ones living in the States.) Michelle would be going to Ohio. Allison would stay in NY a few days and fly to Kansas. Adrian would probably be in NY but Miles was flying off to Los Angeles whilst Mark was going to Hawaii. My parents were coming to New York and we would probably visit my paternal grandparents in Chicago or fly to New Delhi.

"Bye girls, guys!!! I am sooo gonna miss you!!!!" We, the girls shouted to each other and hugged each other tight. We gave a nod to the guys and before I knew it, I was walking home together with Adrian and Allison who left at their respectful lanes and I continued the walk to my home alone.

I was in a state of happiness and sadness. I was happy that I had holidays at last and my parents were coming over but also sad that my friends were all going today. However I didn't know that when I reached home, all hell was going to break loose.

You see I wrote this chapter twice as the first time, something went wrong with my laptop and the chapter got deleted (same thing happened with my edit and I couldn't make it again.)

So...what's going to happen next?

This chapter's question is: Where would you spend your summer holidays?

My answer: I don't really get summer hols 'coz it's summer always where I live. I just get it for a month. Well...if I could have my own way, I'd spend it in France or Italy. =)
