I trudged up to Room 203 exhausted. It was my last class for the day and I was relieved but tired. I didn't hate school but walking up and down the whole day really hurt my legs. Until I was 12 I was an active, sporty kid. I loved physical exercises but after that I became a lazy couch potato. Hell, I would've sit in one place for a long time if people let me. For a couch potato like me, walking up and down every 45 minutes equalled to hell. The worst thing about this school was that it was really HUGE! And it had lots of building plus my classes were in different buildings. Urgh, I wonder why I didn't choose classes which were all in one building or in the ground floor.
I entered the English Room. Mrs Lockwood, our middle aged, stern English teacher was yet to come to class. I breathed a sigh of relief...at least I'd have some time to catch my breath and relax.
I was going to sit in the back, but unfortunately for me, Allison and Adrian had occupied the back row with some of Allison's friends. I decided to sit in the second row next to a girl, whom I recognised from Physics. She smiled at me and I smiled back. She was a quiet girl who hung out only with her clique and I certainly didn't belong there.
I could feel Allison's and her cronies' burning stare at the back of my head but I didn't dare to turn back. Adrian had acted normal at school and we pretended to ignore each other but at times, we smiled secretively at each other. When he smiled at me, I would be left with a dreamy look and a permanent smile for 5 minutes. Anna, Frannie, Hayley, Roxy and Michelle noticed it. Roxy and Frannie had to be explained about my crush on Adrian and my! both of them nearly cracked my ribs with their bone crushing, bear like hug! I had to shush Frannie from squealing and announcing it to the whole school. Unfortunately for me, my oh so loving friends teased me about it. Now, I just had to find their crushes or boyfriends and tease them about it. Roxy had a boyfriend and he was the basketball captain of our school, Zach Simpson. They were really sweet together but teasing Roxy was really hard 'cuz she could really hide her blushes well!
I was snapped out of my daydreaming when I heard a very excited "Good Evening" from Mrs Lockwood.
I looked at her bewildered, she was a stern person and wasn't the type to get excited but today Mrs Lockwood seemed flushed in face and very excited and happy.
Hmmm, I wonder why she's like that. What happened to the professional, no-nonsense Mrs Lockwood?
"Well, dear students I've got an exciting news to tell you!" She exclaimed in a high pitched voice which took me by surprise because she always had a smooth professional voice with no emotions, most of the time.
She looked at us, as if waiting for our reaction. All the faces stared back at her with nothing except bewilderment and surprise. She took a deep breath before continuing and her smile got bigger "This time, Ridgewood High School will be holding an awareness programme on children who are in orphanages and probation homes. So, for that we will be holding a charity event! Mrs. Winston, the Drama teacher, Miss. Georgia, the Music teacher, Miss. Natalie, the dance mistress and myself will be responsible for choosing students to take part. This time, most of the participants will be from the Freshman class and only a few from the upper classes. So, Freshman's give it your BEST!!!"
Mrs Lockwood grinned at us all whilst my eyes turned wide at the mention of a charity event for the unfortunate kids. I loved helping people and wanted to be a psychologist really badly because of this very reason. Maybe this was a chance to do something valuable.
Belle, go for it! This is your chance! C'mon give it your best shot!
"Um, Mrs Lockwood?" I questioned, standing up.
"Belle! Yes, dear?" Mrs Lockwood asked enthusiastically, looking happy to see I had an enthusiastic and excited look on me.
"So, how do we take part in this?" I asked trying my best to ignore the wide eyed stares my classmates were giving me.
