I hurried to Maths. I didn't hate Maths, but sometimes it would be impossible for me to understand the subject. The homework seems easy sometimes but when the test paper comes, I just feel like ripping out all my hair!
When I went to class, Adrian was already there. He was smiling at me. He patted a chair next to him, indicating that I should sit there. I dodged all the nasty and jealous stares given to me by some girls. The boys were all smirking and smiling at Adrian and I. I slowly went towards the chair and offered Adrian a small, sweet smile.
"So, hi! What made you a little late?" asked Adrian, concerned.
"Um, you know- friends. I was chatting with them." I lied. I didn't want him to know about my confrontation with Allison. I had no idea why I didn't want to tell him, but I really didn't want to let him know that.
"Oh." said Adrian and he turned his attention on to the cover of his exercise book.
I didn't know why, but I felt a bit sad at that. I wasn't used to people just stop talking at once when they converse with me. Anyway, I took out my organiser and studied it.
Phew, today I had to go shopping with Hayley. I also had to update a chapter on my Wattpad story 'Letting Go' This was going to be a long day.
The Maths teacher entered the class. Everyone's heads were turned to him.
"Hello students." the Maths teacher said in a friendly, stern voice.
"Hello Sir." we replied politely.
"Well, my name is Bill Wheats. Call me Bill, please. Don't address me formally because it makes me feel really old. Well, sorry for being late to class. I know that as freshmans, today is your first day here but I guess most of you might know the school because your Middle School is just nearby. Well, Maths may be a subject most of you all hate and I can't blame you, because I hated it too when I was small. But, do try to like it because it is a subject essential for life. If you all don't understand anything, feel free to ask me anytime. I live in the hostel, so you can visit me anytime." Mr. Wheats said.
Most of the students were looking at him with happy expressions on their faces. Some were wearing bored expressions. I looked at Adrian from the corner of my eye, he too was paying attention to Mr. Wheats.
We were doing something with ratios. Mr. Wheats explained to us really well and I was working very well on the exercise but I got stuck on one question. Mr. Wheats had gone to the staffroom for something and I was really desperate because we had to finish this by the end of the class. I looked around the class and everybody was working hard on theirs. I was scared and also a bit anxious. I didn't want to piss off the Maths teacher on my first day. I looked at Adrian who was concentrating really hard on his exercise.
Adrian had been really quiet during Maths and didn't utter a word. I thought maybe he must be tired of talking with me. I just peeked over his book and saw that he was finishing the 2nd exercise which was supposed to be for homework. I was surprised. I was still stuck on the first while he was finishing the second! He must be a genius! I waited until he closed his maths book.
"Um, excuse me." I said in a squeaky voice.
Adrian turned to look at me, "Yes?" he answered.
"Um, I was wondering whether you could help me with this question? I think I am stuck in here." I asked looking at him with my best puppy dog eyes.
"Ok, show me what it is." He answered with a boyish grin.
I showed him and he explained to me in 5 minutes. I was done in 10 minutes.
"Phew! That was quick!" I remarked.
"Yep. So, how was your classes so far?" asked Adrian, tilting his head to a side.
