Erin's POV
*************
We split up immediately. "Sam, Riley and Trevor. You guys start north. Paisley and I will go west. Erin, Jc and Connor, you can all head east. If nobody finds him by sundown then we meet back here. Understood?" Kian's voice gave us all orders. I've never seen him so, 'in charge' before, it kind of scared me to be honest."Okay, let's go." I mumbled, I was nervous. I knew Connor wouldn't hurt me, but what about Jc? Is he safe to be around? I ran outside holding my gun, running down the road then turning right, making my way east. "Hurry up!" I yelled back to Jc and Connor. They both soon caught up and were now running beside me, we all looked from one side of the road to the other, only seeing empty houses and abandoned cars. I had hope that we would find Ricky.
"Ricky!" Connor yelled, his voice leaving an echo. No response. I assumed Ricky had made it pretty far by now, he was fast after all. We all yelled his name, but he never responded.
"If Ricky really wanted to get away do you think he could be hiding? You know, not wanting us to see him?" I asked, the boys had obviously known Ricky longer then I had, so they would know if he would 'hide' or not.
"Ricky isn't the type to do that. I don't think he's hiding, I think he's just far from us. It's either that or he just isn't responding to us." Jc answered, I just nodded and kept going. To think about it now, I really was new to this town. We all were. Hopefully we would find Ricky not too far from the house. "Ricky! Where are you dude?" Jc screamed. That was when the groaning and growling started up, we turn behind us to see zombie's making there way towards us. I hold my gun up and shoot with no hesitation, it went straight through it's chest. Unfortunately it still wasn't dead.
"Stupid fucking.." I hiss, and shoot it one more time. Finally dead. It was a relief to look to the boys and to see that they had successfully killed the living dead. We continued our way east, shouting his name again. Hours went by and we still couldn't find him, I was wondering how far we were from home now. The sun was still up so we had time to continue, but the weather had a sudden change. The down poor patted down hard on the pavement. Crashing against windows and car roofs, by now we were all soaking wet. "Perfect." I spat, normally I loved the rain, but today? Not so much. It made searching for Ricky even more difficult then before, the rain nearly blinding us all. I pushed my dripping hair out of my eyes and rather then running, I began to walk.
"What if we don't find him?" Jc asked, shouting over the loud rain. Connor and I stayed silent, neither of us had wanted to imagine not finding him. I wish he hadn't left in the first place. Ignoring Jc's question, I stopped. I looked up at the huge sign. We were at the edge of town. I didn't think Ricky had made it this far. I shook the thoughts away, hoping that the others might have found him. I shouldn't assume that he went east, he could have gone west or north. I kept my head held high as I turned around.
"Let's head back you guys." I yelled, they all followed me and before we knew it the sky was darker. It was night again. The day had gone by so fast, it felt like we had only been out here for minutes. It took awhile to get back, but we eventually made it. Everyone else was inside, their clothes drenched and their hair coated in the rain. "No luck?" I asked, knowing the answer. Everyone shook there head no. I sighed and went upstairs to go change. I couldn't stand the slick clothing sticking to my skin, so I stripped down and got into something much dryer. Afterwards, I went back downstairs to see that everybody had changed into dryer clothing as well.
"I'm sorry we couldn't find him......" Paisley spoke softly, we all looked at her with tearful eyes. "I really am.." she finished.
"It's not your fault." Sam told her, I closed my eyes holding back my own tears from falling.
"It is our fault though, he said we reminded him of how things used to be. Do you know how guilty I fell? I'm sure the other girls feel bad as well." I explained. The girls nodded slightly, and with that all of us girls jogged upstairs and went to bed. I shut the door and collapsed into bed, silently thinking to myself. We had lost Jordyn, and now Ricky. Who else was going to leave? I closed my eyes and tried to sleep. Maybe if I fell asleep, I'd wake up and forget everything. I'd wake up and be in my old bedroom, with my mom and dad, and Riley. That's how I want it to be. I'm tired of all of this. I want to go back to how things used to be.
"Erin? You ok?..." A voice asked, I opened my eyes and saw Sam. I wiped the tears off my cheeks, I hadn't even realized I was crying.
"No. I'm not ok." I admit, he gets in the bed next to me and holds me tightly.
"It's alright, I'm not ok either, we'll survive though. I promise." He hugged me tight and I hugged back. I stopped crying and soon fell asleep. Finally.
