Basil
The lightening has no effect. He just laughs. And Brielle is nearly spent.
"Bronte, Cassian, hold him off," I say, as my son joins me at my shoulder.
They just nod.
"Dara, to me," we need a plan.
I descend back to earth, sweeping Brielle into my arms before it occurs to me that might scare her. But she melts, leaning against me despite the lightening still hot on my trench coat, not even afraid to look into my eyes. I kiss her forehead, giving her one more squeeze for so many we've missed out on.
"What the hell?" Dara asks, taking off her helmet.
"Who do we need to spell?" Helen asks, walking up, wiping blood off of a knife she got from our son.
"I have them stopped at 43rd but we won't hold forever," Luna says, walking up, bow and arrow in hand.
"Ari---take her," I say, as he moves up. He's clearly been healing injuries as they happen, his scrubs splattered in blood. "She's spent."
"We'll get you ambrosia," he says, taking her easily from my arms.
"I'm okay," Brielle says, trying to stand.
"Fantastic, then you can help your cousins once you drink this," Ari says, giving her a flask.
"Really, go help the others, they need your lightening," I say, smiling a little at her, she smiles back.
"Who are we even fighting?" Sol asks, walking up, skin and eyes glowing hot from sunlight.
"Good question," Raven says as she and Della join us.
"Yeah, there isn't much plant life here," Della says, "Not very easy."
"There's plenty of metal or there was until someone said we were saving buildings," Isa snarls, limping over to join our circle.
"Theoretically we are saving buildings, though. I'm not wrong," Anna says, flicking her hair behind her head, looking unperturbed and still pretty shut up Baz off limits.
"So, I am having a fantastic time, but I realize not everyone is but I am so--," Thyme says, reloading a gun and clips as he casually joins us.
"No, no we aren't," Luke says. He's dripping wet, wearing a cut off t-shirt and swim shorts, blue hair plastered to his head. All in all he looks like he just jumped out of the ocean, which he probably did.
Gale appears next to me, glaring at us generally and gesturing around.
"Does anyone know what's going on?" Helen asks, looking around at the eleven of us.
"Zag's doing it---I have Bronte and Cassian on him—but I don't know why or how to stop him," I sigh. This is my fault. I'm the one who angered Hector to begin with. He let Zag loose and this is the result.
"Okay then we blast him with lightening—," Luke says.
"I tried that," I sigh.
"It's not working, he can match any of our powers," Dara says, "Plus he has his own."
"What—he can't be unbeatable," Raven says.
"Yeah, all of us have a weakness," Della says.
"Being encased in metal is usually that weakness, just saying, let's drop a building on him," Isa says.
"I'm pretty sure he'd blast right out of it," Dara says.
"How do you think he'd enjoy the bottom of the ocean?" Luke asks, shrugging.
"I can spell him into not doing what he is, that's a start," Helen says.
"We just went over he's immune to our powers or lightening would have worked," Anna says.
"There's only so many times someone can be stabbed though, right?" Thyme asks.
"No, Dara is right he just took thousands of bolts of lightening, we need to trick him somehow, or trap him, he's not going to succumb to anything any one of you can dish out," I say, quickly, and all their eyes turn on me. Why am I in charge? Oh yes, because usually a lightening bolt does solve our problems. Right. Except it isn't now. And Bronte and Cassian can only hold him so long.
"Your brother's right," my dad joins our circle, "Any of you individually can't defeat him."
"So what do we do?" Helen asks.
"He's countering your abilities because can predict them---a mortal however he can't--- you need to distract him, then if a mortal can deal a fatal blow you can work together to subdue him," our dad says, quickly.
"Well we're fresh out of mortals Gerard and Luna evacuated—,"
"Four square blocks," Luna says, "They're clear, also I don't think a random mortal is going to agree to help. And all my hunters have already taken ambrosia I'm going to assume that takes them out?"
"It does," our dad says.
"No, don't you dare," Anna sighs.
"Oh, we have a mortal!!! He's stupid and I want to kill him!!" Thyme says, raising a hand which has a gun in it. Gale and Isa duck to avoid getting hit with the end of it.
"Well you're not, we're having him stab Zag," I say, folding my arms, "Helen, Raven, Della, Luke, you four help me. Gale you think you can get him close enough?"
He nods.
"Luna, Sol, I want you ready to finish Zag off and trap him once the mortal has him off guard," I say, "Hector needs to come and collect whatever is left. Now. The rest of you, help the kids finish off the remaining monsters. Let's go."
