Zia stormed up to them, completely ignoring Kash. Before Kash could speak, Zia pushed her to the side, intent on speaking with Kyle.
" Kyle, get everyone to the far end. I want all Alphas to meet me here in two minutes. Now. " she ordered with urgency. Kyle quickly nodded and walked briskly, giving orders to the others. Something was going on, it was obvious.
" What's going on? " she asked no one in particular. Zia didn't answer, she was busy stationing the Alphas across the emergency shelter.
" It's bad. Zia, we need more men at the hole. " Aaron came and stood beside Zia, waiting for her command. Hole? What hole?
" What hole? What's going on? " Mash asked again, getting worried. She didn't understand anything that was happening, and no one was telling her. The Betas and Zetis were grouped tightly together at the far end of the chamber, away from the entrance and the 'hole'. Whatever that means. Zia stood in the center of the chamber, ordering her Alphas. The Swordsmen and Assassins were placed at the hole, which Kash could clearly see now because the area had been cleared. It was a huge breach on the back wall. Little cracks spiraled outwards, towards the ceiling, and Kash was afraid it would collapse. The Rangers and Reapers were at the heavy double doors which served as the entrance. Kash was in confusion, standing between Zia and Aaron. Kyle reappeared next to Kash, and she found the opportunity to ask him questions.
" What's happening? " she whispered in his ear.
" Something attacked our Rangers and entered the Facility. It's still inside. " he said. Kashs heart dropped. There's creatures here. And one of them is on the other side of that door. She glanced fearfully at the heavy concrete and steel doors, picturing a horrifying monster bursting through at any moment.
" So why are we here if there's a hole in the wall, and anything can come through? " she whispered again.
" Because, " he snapped, "After the creature broke into the facility, we fled into this evac chamber, to find that there was a hole in the wall. Either there are two in the facility, or its a trap. "
Kash felt fear claw up her throat and panic crawl down her spine.
" What do you mean a trap? " she said, ever so quietly.
" I mean, a trap. We can't go out the door cause we know one of them is in there- " he was cut off by her next question.
" But aren't you guys Alphas? I thought you train for this stuff. "
" We are. But two-thirds of the people here aren't. It's impossible to keep them all safe. It'd be a buffet for the things. "
She stopped asking questions, and waited in silence. It was pin drop silent, and everyone was taking shallow breaths, waiting. Watching. Just then, right when she thought that nothing was going to happen, a low snarl barely caught her ears. She perked, trying to see if anyone else heard it. No one looked they did, except Zia. Her pointed ears perked up, and she crouched. She flicked up her hand, signaling some of her Alphas forward. They immediately started edging across to the hole, their backs to the wall and their weapons drawn. Kash cowered behind the tall frame of Kyle. Aaron was among the Alphas that were now positioned on either side of the hole. They waited in silence. Another growl came from the forest. The vibrant, deceiving looks of the forest seemed surreal, almost magical. Add it to the creatures lurking in its shadows, it became terrifying. The wind howled as dark clouds settled over the sky, a thunderstorm brewing in their bellies. The wind was blowing with brute force against the trees and bushes, making it impossible to listen for any sounds. Suddenly, with a deafening snarl, a gruesome creature launched itself out of the tree line. The Betas and Zetis at the back muffled their screams. Kash was close to fainting and her panic flooded over her, leaving her seeing spots. She immediately stepped behind Kyle, closing her eyes from the wind. She peeked out from behind him to see the creature once more. It was gruesome. It's leathery black skin was unlike anything she had imagined. It's teeth stuck out like razors snapping and gnashing at the Alphas that surrounded it. It growled in a bloodthirsty manner, and pounced on the nearest Alpha.
