She blinked her eyes slowly, wincing with pain. Zia slowly got to her feet, rubbing the dirt out of her eyes. She took a step back, and her heart skipped a beat. Her foot was dangling in the air. She stood on the edge of a sharp precipice. The cliff was made of dirt and rock, and she couldn't believe what she saw. In front of her loomed huge mountains , rising tall and spiraling into the sky. Where am I? Between her and the mountains ran a low canyon, surrounded by a swamp. Where's Ian? The facility? She couldn't believe her eyes. She'd literally vanished through space and ended up somewhere in the far edge of the forest. The Cursed Lands. Thats what she had always called the forest. Something about the forest and the way people ended up in the facility one at a time always bothered her. They'd received no information and they were forced to work according to another way of life. Zia had purposefully become commander's favorite in order to receive any new information. But truly she hated him. He's a sinister man. He is responsible. For everything. Before her thoughts could wander into her dark memories, she strode forward, contemplating what to do next. A gushing river ran under the cliff she stood on, but it was too long a drop. I'll go to the mountains and locate the facility. She walked forward, twitching her blade nervously in her hand. This forest is huge. I'll have to keep moving. Away from the cliff. Something about heights like that scared her. I can't remember why. To get to the mountains, she'd have to cross the canyon, and cut through the swamp. She walked slowly, carefully placing her feet on soft grass. After a few moments she reached the edge of the canyon. I'll have to get across this first. She could either go over the canyon, or climb down the side of the cliff, cross the gushing river and climb back up again. Neither of them sound good. I'll have to go down. The hot sun beat down on her, as she slowly slipped her feet over the edge. She held on to the edge with one hand as she dangled over the edge of the two hundred foot drop. She jabbed her blade into the edge and held on to it with one hand, as she tried to reach for the other knife. Her heart hammered against her chest. It just had to be heights. She jabbed the other knife in, and was now dangling over the edge with nothing but two blades to support her. She carefully pulled one out and stuck it a foot lower. She gingerly moved her hand down and grasped it, her palms sweating. Then she carefully pulled out the second blade and impaled it next to the first blade. She let her body drop, until she was dangling by the two blades, once again hanging over the dangerous canyon. Her chest rattled with fear, and beads of sweat lined her forehead. Just keep breathing. That's the key. Her palms sweaty, she carefully repeated the process. She managed to come down about ten feet, when her palms slipped. The blade flew out and fell down to the floor. She grunted with effort, as she tried to place both her sweaty palms on the one remaining blade. The lose rock around the blade gave way, and the blade slipped. She screamed. She fell down, the wind tearing at her skin. She frantically tried to get a hold on the rock with her blade, but she was going too fast. The ground loomed closer and closer, the sound of gushing water getting closer and closer. She fumbled in a vain attempt to hold on. Her arms were exhausted and she could barely lift them up, but she jabbed the blade in with all her strength. It wedged between a small crack, and her fall breaked suddenly. She gasped. It felt like her arms ripped off, and she could barely hold on. Her arms felt like lead, and she barely had the energy to close her fingers around the blade. Her head bashed against the rock, and a gash cut across her right temple. Blood spilled across the rock, and started dripping down from the gash. She could barely breath and her lungs rattled with the effort. Her arms couldn't hold on. She was tired, hurt and exhausted. No. I have to get down to the gorge. Blood dripped into her eyes, her arms screamed with pain, her head throbbed with pain. She slowly pulled out the dented blade and with her hands trembling, pushed it into the rocks a foot below her. I-I have to keep going. It's only a few more feet. She pulled the blade out a second time, but her hands were too weak. Her hand slipped, and she tumbled downward, into the gushing river below.
